Where to keep materials, suggestions?
I other games I've played I can stash things in a chest in a number of places in the game world and have access to all of the contents at any one of them.

In DS, it appears the private locker is tied to the location, so if I put things in one, that stuff is not available at other private lockers. This means I can spread things all over the place or I can try to keep big stockpiles in just a few locations. What do you recommend?

On that note, always always ALWAYS stop to convert a location's maxed out resources into a max sized container or two for your stash. This is your #1 way to stockpile resources.

Of particular note, missions to deliver raw materials goes to the location's material capacity. So if you are delivering 4,000+ of a material to a place at full capacity, it will just vanish into nothing. Meanwhile if you convert all their materials into barrels for the stash, THEN complete the delivery? oh man.

One stand out example justifying this mindset was when I went to the wheat farm with a truck full of Mule camp cargo... and the mule camp cargo was basically a pity party nothing amount compared to just what skimming off the top from the Farm has.

Road costs skyrocket exponentially the farther down the highway you get, and trying to upgrade ziplines in particular is a ballbuster because chemicals are always in short supply and even their biggest containers don't hold a lot. In fact some locations even when you max out their stars will not be able to hold enough chemicals at one time to upgrade a single zipline to rank 3.

There is also a strange edge case "If you have too much of this you can't build more, anywhere" I ran into on time. I was hoarding hover carriers. and I Guess because they technically count as a form of vehicle, the game won't let you craft more of them if you have like, 30+ of them stashed across the world. Solved by clearing out spare hover carriers in various locations. But that is the only time my hoarder instincts ran into that kind of problem.

I usually keep some basic supplies in just about every location just incase s*** gets serious, repair sprays, boots, ladder, climbing ropes. Oh materials, I keep them spread out for repairs.

Not gonna lie, I began to hoard the custom items and special materials. There’s no limit to the private lockers, so why not?

Then there's so much available it can be stashed all over the place without worrying about no having enough for some big purpose? I had a vision of having to travel all over the place to collect enough to use on something.

There actually is a limit to amount you can store in private lockers but it takes a lot to get there, it's a limit on total items in all lockers not an individual locker.

Yup, I do this all the time in particular with Order #511. It has you deliver 14,000 Metal and 11,200 Ceramics from South Knot to Lake Knot. So as soon as I get to Lake Knot, I claim the max 8000 metals and 5000 ceramics before making the delivery. Great way to stockpile resources for maintaining roads and structures.

.

How do you convert the resources into containers?

You claim materials and it will be packaged for you and you can do whatever you want with it. Recycle the package of materials and it's returned to the store.
