cant activate directors edition because i own original?

i got eh humble key dor directors edition, but i cant use it because it... assuming because i have the original game. this makes no sense at all?

I've got the same problem, though I'm hoping it's just a temporary delay in the keys being valid. Might have to contact Humble Bundle support...

I had the same problem, ended up removing the original game from my library and that allowed me to redeem the directors cut key, but I lost my achievements. Hopefully something can be done so others can avoid that.

Just saw that Humble actually added instructions for anyone with this problem.

It explains you need to remove the original from your account, activate the key, then use steam support to add the original back to your account if you still want. You will then have both seperate copies. Just did it, can confirm.

Read the linked article. You remove the game, redeem the key, and then re-add it.

Yeah I am having the same issue and I have been in contact with Steam Support. They told me that it is an 'add on' and that I need the base game.. Which I already have the release version of the game so I am waiting for a response on the matter.

I can also confirm that this method worked without issue. However I had no playtime in the original so I have no clue what it'll do to your achievements etc.

I just did it the way humble describes to do it and can confirm that my achievements and my dlc from the original game are still there

I mean it's 100% better than how they handled when Control "Ultimate" edition was in the bundle.. Humble Bundle advertised the key as for being for the "Ultimate" edition but when you redeemed the key you just got the base game.. So to this day my Steam Library says that I have the Ultimate edition but I actually just have the base edition.

So at least this time they included instructions on how to redeem it and it is actually the Director's Cut with all the add-on's and not the release edition.

i have other problem on the support list of games that i own i don't have death stranding.... but death stranding directors cut! But in the library i have standard version... wtf?

I believe when you buy the DIrectors cut you also get the standard release version also.

Here is a workaround in order to access both versions of the game from your Steam Launcher:

Click on Help and then Steam Support in the Steam desktop app.
Search for DEATH STRANDING.
Choose "I want to permanently remove this game from my account" and follow the instructions.
Activate the DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT Humble Choice code.
In order to restore your original copy of DEATH STRANDING to your Steam Library, please do the following:

Click on Help and then Steam Support in the Steam desktop app.
Search for DEATH STRANDING.
Choose "Can't find this game in my library".
Select Restore.
You will now have DEATH STRANDING and DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT in your Steam Library.
