To be honest it actually can, for example, having more or less just started the game, i got to the next area after the tutorial type area, my first real contact with mules and more areas with BT's and timefall, i got killed for the first time there due to not knowing about the mule scanner things and not having the right gear to defend myself and panicking a bit due to the scanners and being rushed lol, anyhoo after sneaking in to get my things back just about, i then went back, repaired what i needed to and set out again cautiously and slowly picking up resources and local dropped parcels to progress and get resources, i ended up building the first road section out of that area and thought thats great that will help avoiding rough terrain and enemies, then i walked along it and saw how short the section was for what almost cleared me out of resources.
Anyhoo i played a bit more, started getting more resources, made it to a couple of new areas, went back and logged off, came back on the next evening and because i had built that section of road, it now allowed me to link with other players roads, and because other players had used my section of road i had also earned a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of likes, basically i think i went from level 14 to about 50 or something crazy like that, what!! this also unlocked some stuff and gave me boosts to durability, speed etc, so after gearing up and preparing to go outside, i now find the one section of road i had built which is only about 30 metres long at best now goes on for miles completely avoiding the mule camp, the patrolling mules nearby, and BT areas and gets me all the way to the distribution centre, cut a long story short it made the game easy to progress, i picked up a mission that needed me to go from a to b, and the day before it was hazardous, took a lot of planning, thinking, crouching, oh ♥♥♥♥ run!! moments etc but now thanks to the power of going to sleep it is easy, super quick (Due to someones trike being on the road to use) and risk free.
There are also now bridges over every possible obstacle where you might possibly need one including where you really do and essentially the game went into super easy mode for me overnight.
Good think I started New game with online mode "off".
One thing is Dark Souls online where you communicating with other ppl using coop or pvp and the other is when ppl are "playing" your Singleplayer game for you.
You'll have an extremely hard time if you play in Offline Mode, you'll be wasting a ton of time too, since the grind will be way higher if you play in Offline Mode.
There's no levels per se in this game, and your online interactions only affect the bridge link stat.
It's pretty clear Reggie is not an experienced player, the fact he had a hard time with the most basic enemy in the game (MULES) and the misinformation he gave you, proves that.
Yeah but just going by the rest of his post it seems the circus is in town, probably wasting your time ;)
Par for the course this year unfortunately. Also people on Steam in general can't have normal adult discussions and usually resort to name calling.
You can easily see by Avatars (as Epic does not support Avatars, yet).
Honestly you're free to play however you want, the option is there.
Kojima himself doesn't recommend the game to be played in Offline Mode, https://gamingbolt.com/death-stranding-hideo-kojima-really-wouldnt-recommend-playing-the-game-offline
But even I've made an entire run in Offline Mode and had my fun, as I already warned, the challenge will be greater on multiple levels (you'll have to build everything yourself and the grind for resources will be greater).
Leveling up Bridge Link stat will be a challenge, as you'll get a few likes from NPCs (compared to NPCs + Players).
You can also disable shared content (structures, vehicles and signs) while remaining online, that option was added on PC.
I havn't started my run as I just bought this, but I have a question. What good would it be to disable shared content, but remain online? What would you get out of remaining online as opposed to just playing offline if nothing is shared? I will probably just play online, but I am curious as I am not sure if I want my landscape riddled with random junk.
You'll also find other players lost loot which you can deliver, and will have access to the shared storage.
