waiting out the rain

can you actually wait out rain? I saw a tooltip saying something about it. but say i find a cave, can i sit there and wait for it to pass?

I'm assuming you are early on and I would say don't bother. Rain can last like over an hour and if you don't have the ability yet to know how long it will last then you never know how long you will be stuck waiting. Later on their is a structure you can build that will give you the ability to wait out rain without actually siting there for the whole time.

You can rest in caves if its going to be a short time, and certain structures allow you to basically skip time ahead. However some rain especially early on is scripted, along with some areas tending to always be rainy. You can check the weather up to 30 minutes in the future in the map to see if this will be useful or not.

Time fall in BT spawn zone is nearly endless (rarely stops for story but usually it just keep falling). You should move forward than wait if BT spawns nearby.

Once you get the container repair spray time fall is none issue and it only get easier from there.

...until you get caught in a storm and run out of spray...
