As for signs, you can change it in setting
If you want to turn all sharing off, play offline
You're not really getting the developers overriding message about connecting and cooperation in a post apocalyptic, disconnected world.
That's not spoiling anything if you've already had to trek through alone before they show up.
Then came the vomit of bridges and other structures in absolutely useless places.
Those who say "play the game with sharing, you don't know what you miss..." I say, play without because you don't know the real beauty of the game without all that crap placement.
I quite like the other features like picking up other peoples cargo and leaving yours for others to take etc. But the constructions and signs are a dreadful idea. And I have turned spoilers off and I am still seeing the warning signs and shelter signs.
And for those who say you don't see them when you are not in communication range, the communication range extends a hell of a long way. So yes you see a lot of these things. For example I was on my way to a station and I saw signs warning me of mules just before I got attacked, a sign telling me of a shelter, signs warning me off BTs just before I reached them, etc etc. I only left communication range just before I arrived at the new station. That's just no fun at all.
Now I am just at the start of the game, 13 hrs in, got only to the third station with the bike in it, so it may improve after that I certainly hope so. Because at the moment I am struggling to find much interest in continuing the game at all if its all spelled out for me before I even get there.
I love the natural world and natural countryside, and at the start I thought this game looked beautiful, but the more you get into the areas tainted by other players the worse it gets.
Also keep in mind you may not always see the full picture of why someone placed a bridge where they did. Maybe in their world someone placed a much more important bridge and they simply added theirs to it as a method of convenience.
I end up spending more time melting others' eyesores than I want to. I logged in one time after months away and the terrain looked like an industrial wasteland with dozens of useless bridges and those observation towers everywhere. I have a good system, my draw distance is at max.
Explain to me why there is a bridge over absolutely nothing on the beach within spitting distance of a delivery destination? You can park under a rain shelter and repair damaged parcels. These bridges and other crap all over the place are simply trash.
Dial back the crap settings or play offline.
As you say: I think you nailed the point. The game seems to be placing things randomly to cover when there isn't enough player 'stuff' out there. Some dropped parcels are other players, sure, but look closely at the details of the account they are attributed to and I think it becomes more and more obvious.
