Cause if so, I got nothing. Playing steathily is how I usually get ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm still not entirely sure what the counter-ping timing is either.
Prefer to fighting them anyways cause then the area gets usable by npc porters.
Oh i thought i was supposed to since it tells you to hide in tall grass and such.
Guess I'll just mash x button, they spot you a mile away.
I'm sure some people can stealth just fine. I'm just not good at it, so I can't help you.
Hell, I just recently realize that this one item is only usable if you're steathing, and I kept thinking the item was broken. But it only works if they haven't seen you yet lol. So I was like ♥♥♥♥ using that then.
Congrats, you just cleared a mule camp without issue.
oh yeah that's right. I remember doing that once, but I'm too lazy for it lol
FIrst off, build or use a postbox. Put all your packages (lost cargo, order cargo) inside. This will negate Mule pings that check for cargo, which is what they are checking for early game. Once you do, you can either play stealthy or just go to war. I recommend stealthy until you are used to combat. Now, by stealthy, I mean go from Mule to mule via the grass and take them down, not try to avoid them.
Stay crouched, stay low, don't have too many items in your backpack. Start with lone Mules and strand them or melee them down. Do it quickly enough and they won't have time to alert their allies. Just be aware of the locations of the mules so that you aren't spotted while you take one down. Grab their dropped items if you need to, but again, keep your backpack low. Keep this up until you run out of lone Mules, then use one of the Mule drops and throw that at a mule while you take out another.
You should eventually clear the mules or at least clear them enough to get your order items. Grab your order items and then you can leave. Pick up the items you stashed away at the postbox.
Note: As an alternative, you can stash your cargo inside a terminal instead.
Note: On the m+kb, the strand is broken if you use the toggle option. You need to use the hold option with the strand. (There is a way to make the toggle option work, but due to a glitch, it is harder).
Later in the game, you'll get more options to evade (there is a hologram that makes you a rock and you can quickly enter that state to evade) or negate the pings (negating is two pulses, one detector pulse from the poles, then when that pulse reaches the mules, the mules will do a pulse. You need to negate the later pulse, so usually what I do is I pulse about a second after the pole pulse depending on the location of the mules.)
Early camps, you can totally purposefully alert them and melee them down if you know what you are doing. Just be aware that when you knock an enemy unconscious, the game slows down for a bit, which can mess with timing.
Later on, you get the bola, which has a small amount of drop, but if you get used to that drop (feel free to save scum to practice seeing how much it falls), you can get headshots with it consistently. Bola headshots = instant knockout. Body shots = bound (you'll need to run up and kick them to knock them out).
If you use random cargo as throwing weapons, just be aware that it will do damage to the cargo, but this is a very effective way to stun a mule for a takedown.
Hematic Grenades will also stun a Mule. Just be aware that at close range, it can stun you as well (though you'll be stunned for slightly shorter of a period).
You can also use fake cargo to stun or knock them out once you unlock them.

1. You have that "strand", a rope you carry on your belt. Equip it.
2. Try to fight one MULE at a time, split them by running around the barracks or other structures.
3. When a MULE attacks you, try to time it and jump to the side, then go behind them and use the strand to choke the MULE (getting used to doing this may take some time though).
4. You can mash the button corresponding to the strand use - iirc, Sam will try to hit the MULE with that strand, and shortly blind him, and that gives you a good opportunity to go behind his back and choke him.
5. Remember that disabling all the MULEs in the camp will prevent them from disturbing you for quite some time.
6. You may have taken an order which requires you to clear a big MULE camp (this was the one I had the most trouble with) - you might need to learn how to throw your cargo, and use it to knock out those MULEs. Mind that it damages the cargo badly.
7. Rush through the main story until you receive the Bola gun. It will make things much easier for you.
eh, depends on difficulty
on anything below 'very hard' and/or the first two encampments the density of MULEs and the patterns in which they attack make meleeing them viable, but once you get to the third encampment there are too many of them to reliably just beat the snot out of, at least on 'very hard'
the bola gun is at least better than nothing, but on 'very hard' its cyclic rate is too poor for stand-up combat, especially with terrorists
