well, is a rope going to the elder, where I had to climb up the hard way to make the rope, so from what i can tell the only way down, at least for me is this rope, its been at least 2 times its done this, and I have log in turned off, because i want to experience the game campaign the way the 1st players on day 1 experienced it.
I've never had both be coiled at the top at any time.
I noticed that too. After climbing up, I make sure that I have droped down rope properly, for other persons or myself after revisiting area. On very rare ocasion I have found rope in exact position as I have left it. It seems that map distance have nothing with it, but how fast you have returned there. (If you travel with vehicle far away and return back quickly, for example).
I'm certain that other peoples were using it, even if I didn't get many likes on it, because of laid down path that leads to rope. After scaning area I can see a lot of other people footsteps going same way as I did.
Unfortunately, it seems that not many people care about others, not paying attention to properly drop down rope after climbing.
that guide is nothing more than superstition and hearsay
ropes - as physics-enabled structures - just sometimes get funky when they are loaded in, despite your best efforts to ensure the rope is thrown back over the face of the cliff
nothing more, nothing less
How do I know ... because I played the game Offline (no other player structures, no building/material/repair help, no signs, no "other player" help/connection at all) and climbing ropes still did that.
