At least that's what I've observed, but I could could be wrong.
You can of course remove them yourself too through settings or removal, however that's only on your local saved version, not the server.
Just saying, move on...
For example, that collector shelter is very tricky to reach, even with HUD mark turned on.
That is why I have asked question in the first place, how it works gameplay mechanic wise.
Does some other players hate/delete them, or it is removed on purpose from server side, to not be spoilers, etc. I have spoiler signs turned off in settings, at least for first playtrough.
I'm certain that some of my signs have disapeared, and I'm certain that I didn't removed them. Several arrow pointing signs have gone missing and few "speed up" boost signs on road as well.
For example, early in second area, after building few pieces of main road, I have put sign to mark where to turn toward engineer prepper bunker. It lasted for several gaming session and then gone missing. I have even builded bridge in that area making convinient to go there quickly and mostly safely from main road.
After a while, someone else have also put similar sign pointing in same direction that have received a lot of likes. After while, that sign have gone too. It does not seem to be needed anymore, though, as lot of people start to follow that path and it is well established and visible pathway, even without using scaner.
[have to admit, it is fun to place the speed boost sign below the crest of a hill and on a curve...]
