Hilariously bad voice acting in the Junk/fixer mission
How did this happen? It's a proper ps1 era voice acting - took me right out of the game. Don't get me wrong the game is great but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that was bad.

Makes no sense that anyone would have a Japanese (or French for that matter) accent as the game clearly states, there is no travel between nations and especially not airplanes. :deadweight::commandervideo:

Well, yes, you are right about that, but not the case... It makes a lot of sense once you "finish" their quests and learn their story.
Her "mother" (the one we know in the game) is not so, she is an adoptive mother. Her real parents were japanese but died 5 years ago, her adoptive mother says she barely spoke english when they first met.
So If her parents were japanese who migrated into the (back then) United States before the Death Stranding, and lived isolated as almost everyone after it, it makes a lot of sense they taught her daughter to speak japanese, as almost every inmigrant family speaks their mother language at their home.
And if they were isolated, is not strange that the girl couldn't learn enough english to sound like a native even when she was born in the (now) UCA.

That's why I only took her for an "inmigrant" with a funny accent and not as a bad actress.

Just a thick accent alone wouldn't be such a problem though...but the whole delivery is flat
Bjornstefansson 24 ENE 2021 a las 3:22 a. m.
Bottom line the performance was flat and clearly not done by a professional - that's it. There is a reason why people go to school to learn acting for 3 or 4 years.
There's a big misconception today that just because people have a lot of followers and are widely known they can just do everything and in this case act. Don't get me wrong she's probably a very talented person but an actor she is not.

yes, proper acting is not something you just do, like all things art it depicts something by not just replicating the real life counterpart. Like a perfectly realistic photo of a forest is just a photo and you look at it and go 'ok'. A perfectly stylized painting of a forest has you look much longer. Same with voice acting. The acting voice and pronounciation is hardly ever how those actors would speak in real life. Junk dealer right next to chiral artist is a perfect example. the junk dealer actor never ever speaks like this is real life. That makes the acting and depicting of the character. The chiral artist 'actor' however just pulls the thing like a real life thing and that's it. Just really poor. I smell BJ casting, to be honest.

the problem is the chiral artist's age. she couldn't possibly be older than the stranding, which happened 30+ years ago.

NOT ONLY THAT, her own mother does not have any sort of accent. Unlike The Elder who is very old so he obviously was around before the beginning of teh stranding so he at least was able to take an airplane to travel.

The chiral artist is YOUNG, too young to have even been alive prior to the stranding. Her own mother has a very clear, distinct American accent with a broad, "Californian" dialect.

Please f u c k off calling me "ignorant", I understand exactly how and why accents and dialects diffuse through a culture. :fngr:

Her parents were Japanese, from Japan. She was raised Japanese. "The Chiral Artist's Mother" is who adopted her after her real parents died in the terrorist attack on South Knot City five years before the events in the game.

I have met Mexicans in America who have been here for three generations and have a poorer grasp on English than The Chiral Artist does in this game.

Would it really sound any different if she was "good at acting" ?

I kinda doubt it lol

Yeah i agree with the VA. Its really bad. I wonder why they not dub it like what they do with The Engineer (Junji Ito)

Are you seriously stupid enough to believe there are no people from foreign countries already living in the US?

I actually liked it. Its out of the ordinary and they provide a perfectly reasonable justification for the accent. Plus its a very minor part. All part of the charm IMO.
Reonu 26 ENE 2021 a las 11:35 a. m.
It's supposed to be a Japanese person who can barely speak English, trying her best to speak English. And that's exactly what it sounds like.

don't diss CV actresses. so what if if she has no background. Hideo Kojima gave the Green light to use her. Watch later on her Reputation will grow and you fakers just like most I know will clap, fall for tears, RIP, and all that junk cause you found out that the person became a celeb. Even today your CV actors and actresses are in their 40-50+ Professionals. Like I always said GenX started it all and gave you the boost. So far I have not seen anything surpassing GenX Pros.

Only seeing CV of today signing up for screaming Gokus.
:steamdeadpan:What does this mean?

The whole quest is awful. The cutscenes are very odd and forced too, let alone the aftermath (which was kind of funny though).

Yeah, this Kojima guy on his own is maybe a 7/10, too many small things off in the game. He needs to go back to Konami to get other input and reach 10/10 MGS level again.

Man, you're talking about a few minutes of her acting vs 12+ hours of cutscenes with the rest of the cast.

How much weight could that possibly have?
