Chapter 5 (Spoiler if you haven't gotten there yet)
I'm making my way through Chapter 5, have been playing on and off today. So first, I need to go to Mama's Lab. Then I need to go visit her twin, Lockne. Then, as soon as I arrive, I have to go ALL the way back to Mama's Lab. And now....I'm supposed to carry Mama ALL the way BACK to Lockne???!!!! Are we being trolled here?? I couldn't handle that same trek yet again, so I need to take a break from the game.

Its times like that you want to be contributing to and rebuilding the highways if you haven't already, it will make your life much easier. You can then just put mama in your truck and have a nice drive back up to Mountain Knot while she talks to you. Stop by one of the hot springs with her too :lunar2019piginablanket:

Just do different stuff for a while if that trip is taxing for you.
Also the first trip was the big loop which ends up taking you to Mountain Knot from the West, with Mama you can cut it directly and come in from the East, takes like 5-10 minutes.

Its these times where the game asks you if you have done your homework.
This is how these missions turned out for me:

Going west from the weather station is your best option, past the Roboticist, if you want to go over the mountains. But there are BTs between the Roboticist and Mountain Knot.

I built up a bunch of highways in Chapter 3, so I'm kinda burned out on that too. I spent a lot of time raiding MULEs, collecting materials, and traipsing back and forth between places that had more resources so I could claim them.

The story is the biggest draw of a game for me, and although I do like all the side stuff, Chapter 3 was so long that I couldn't wait for the story to progress more. Now that it's finally moving again, I can't go back to building roads again lol.

Plus, now ziplines were just introduced, and I was wondering if there's a point in bothering with roads still.

I spent Chapter 3 doing lots of side stuff, so now I want to have the story move on more. I'm at almost 54 hours already, and I feel like I need to progress more since there are so many more chapters. But yeah, I can do more of a shortcut this trip. Just, the way back there's an area that rains the whole time, and I had to cross a deep river. With that and climbing steep slopes, seems like it would take much longer with Mama on my back.

Looks bloody! I saw lost cargo for the Roboticist but haven't actually seen it or visited wherever it is yet. Maybe I was near it, not sure. I got distracted looking for the heart-shaped pond I saw on the map (didn't look heart-shaped when I finally arrived, at least from my vantage point on a slope).

Yes take breaks, especially if you're doing a lot of side content, play the game at your own pace and find how easy or hard you want to make the game. No reason playing while you're burned out.
Take breaks just like Sam has to.

This mission is a proof how poorly designed this game is. You can't put mama in the truck, but you can carry her on a bike. This game makes no sense.

With mama on your back just get into your truck, she will automatically ride in the passenger side.

Makes it look like a proper abduction with her being wrapped in the body bag.

Well, I decided to just do it, and it wasn't too bad. Someone had left a bike at the top so that made it much easier.

I already had all my highways built when I reached this chapter. Took a while, but definitely consider building the roadways.

I got burned out of building so never finished the roads this far. Now I'm considering setting up a network of ziplines instead, but I'm finding the placement in some areas to be somewhat tedious, because of obstacles. Finding the balance of distance and line of sight.

I did notice though that suddenly, other players are able to contribute to roads before I build them. In Chapter 3, all pavers were always at 0. Once I built the road, other players could maintain them, but I had to build them first. But now, I'm suddenly getting messages that players and porters have been delivering materials. Seems like it fills up to a certain point and I need to fill up the rest. Makes it easier at least.

Very true. After my roads were built, they never deteriorated to 0%.
