ERROR when opening the game!
Hello everyone
I´m having a bit of an issue after opening the game.
So I select my settings, then wait for the waiting screen to finish loading to start playing (I haven´t played the game in my pc before) and all of a sudden a huge error message pops on my screen, and kicks me out of the game straight to the Steam lobby.
I tried validating the game settings several times, I deleted and reinstalled the game twice already and the problem keeps showing up.
I have an MSI gs66 stealth with a 2070 max graphics card, and an external 1 tb ssd where I store my games, so specs shouldn´t be an issue at all.
I have no idea what to do at this point, any help is more than welcome.
Thanks in advance!
I´ll leave the whole message that pops up in here, maybe one of you knows what is going on.

You running Windows 10? Someone other day had this and was running Windows 7.
Latest drivers? Latest updates?

There's quite a few reports of this error (or variations of it) and quite a few solutions that have worked for some and not for others. Most recommended turning off DLSS in your graphics settings. Try doing a search in this discussion group for "Access Violation" and try some of those solutions. I also was getting an Access Violation crash but none of the fixes I found solved it. Ended up being a corrupt save file. I reloaded a save from a previous backup and no more crashes.

Since you're just starting out, you won't lose any game progress by deleting the contents of the save folder and relaunching the game. I always recommend creating a backup before deleting just in case ;)

Save folder location:
C:\Users\yournamel\AppData\Local\KojimaProductions\DeathStranding\49644000\

This worked for me but just as all the other solutions, they don't work for everyone. Good Luck, hope you find the right solution, the game is definitely worth getting it working.

This too ^
But might as well cover the big obvious pinch points to make sure your not missing something easy to fix.

DLSS worked like a dream for me here. Sad to see it not working out for others. :/

Absolutely Kage, first step is to make sure your rig meets the minimum system requirements :)

MINIMUM:
OS: Windows® 10
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen™ 3 1200
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB or AMD Radeon™ RX 560 4 GB
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 80 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible
Additional Notes: AVX instruction set required

RECOMMENDED:
OS: Windows® 10
Processor: Intel™ Core i7-3770 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 1600
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon™ RX 590
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 80 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible
Additional Notes: AVX instruction set required

Unsure what version DirectX you're running? Type "dxdiag" in Windows 10 search window.

Not saying this is relevant to Death Stranding issues, but If you play or decide to play older games on a brand new system, then this link below is great to keep handy to install all past redistributable versions. Win10 is not backward compatible in that regard, and PC gamers, especially the old games, are often not supported and just crash immediately.

List your cpu because that decides whether or not the game will launch.

I'm sorry to dissapoint but you've just gotten the shorter end of the stick. Nobody could solve this issue until now and it always pops up around steam sales. Sadly it almost always ends with: you either wait until you have a different computer or refund.
It happens to people whose system specs exceed the min requirements too of course. It is sadly not a factor with this issue. It is a either you get it or don't issue.
You can look it up in the past discussions.

Kind of jumping the gun a bit are we?
Maybe elaborate just what this thing of doom you speak of?

OP has not yet replied....so less jumping to conclusions and more waiting for updates would be a good idea.

As already been detailed - a bit of troubleshooting simple things may solve this.
So lets sit tight and not get carried away.
DragnX[HUN] Mar 25, 2021 @ 12:52pm
Sadly it is not jumping the gun. You just have to go back a few pages to see.
But I can also summarize the proposed solutions that can be found on the internet and 505 games:
1. check if your video card driver is the latest using windows update.
2. verify the game files
3. run as an administator
4. reinstall your sound card driver
5. download some obscure dll, put it into your game folder
6. disable steam overlay
7. reinstall your windows

Might have forgotten one but the thing remains. If you check the discussion thread backwards in time, or wait for the next sale, you'll see the forum filled with people with this error and nobody wrote that any of the above has worked.

I have DirectX12
MSI gs66 2070 max q
extra tb of external ssd where I store games so it won´t touch my original ssd
So specs really should not be an issue

So I already tried numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 and none of them work, I´ll try what Bubba and Kage Goomba are suggesting and let you guys know
also, sorry for the late reply, got kinda really busy these last few days

So I gave this one a try and went for tip 2, I uninstalled my sound device and reinstalled, it worked!
Thanks to everyone who took their time to comment, I very much appreciate it.

Great news! Glad you explored all avenues before listening to the naysayers.

Welcome to Bridges! :dsbridges:
