For your first major play through - leave it on - you may encounter some trollish stuff - but its only about 10% of the time - worst I had was a few stupidly placed signs that would run me off the road or a bridge that was stupidly placed by quite a few players - until one of them actually was done right.
Point being - you can "remove" signs/structures at-will if you find it wrong/annoying.
But mark my words - the number of useful structures/signs will be very much a welcome sight - especially towards the end of the game.
Editing to add: I have driven so many trucks into rivers and abandoned them there, if this was the real world, the EPA would have me on the "most wanted super polluters" list. So many trucks. Like, there is one particular place (nevermind where) that I was just CONVINCED I could drive right across. 1 truck stuck, I got another truck....stuck exact same place. Got ANOTHER truck and yeah, stuck in the exact same place. 4th truck I noticed just a little bit away there was a bridge and low and behold, I did not get stuck on the bridge. FUN FACT if you've read this far! Sometimes you might notice this message in red, "A friendly BT has removed (or disassembled or something along those lines) your truck / trike". You will get that message when some porter (player) somewhere found your vehicle and deleted it. Spoiler tags because it is a spoiler, really so if you're new to the game, just leave off this part, dont read it yet.
So don't worry, the way you share things with other players is a good one.
This - its why I say its "passive co-op" to people who ask - its a one way street - and only goes to you - you don't lose anything - however.
You can "Give" away things.
So if you dismantle/walk away too far from cargo/give away cargo - its gone from your instance - but will show up in other players worlds (mostly) which may or may not make its way back to you...eventually.
Quite the system in truth.
In MY settings for online I have 'share all' and 'don't share structure, signs and vehicles'. I understand this will affect what I see in the game, but does it affect what OTHERS see in their game of my contributions? Or is it 'possible' for all my contributions to show for others whom have 'Show All' settings enabled in their game regardless of my online settings?
I ask mostly because not only did I spend a considerable amount of time in logistics - Building roads - and enjoying the benefits like the Romans did - which have been used by many -but - I have created an incredible network of Zip Lines.
East of the Craftsman is that Ruined Roadside Factory. I began a ZipLine there (and a max level Safehouse) and one can take it up to the Waystation north of Mountain Knot city and beyond. Across the side of that ridge, past the Terrorists and safely to the plains beyond where it splits, allowing Zip travel to North Knot. The other split takes one to the Mountain Knot.
Here it splits again and one can go directly to Mountain Knot City and the Doctor. Another takes you to Mountaineer, and Spiritualist. The other direction goes to the Roboticist, Heartman, Geologist, Paleontologist, and Evo-devo Biologist. Both deep mountain routes also have Generators to keep battery levels up since the Thermal Tool will eat at the charge.
One can spend hours delivering between all these locations and hardly ever touch the ground. I'd hate to think I was the only one having a chance at taking advantage of this.
I understand the roads are a 'shared asset', but the Zip lines - well - that in itself almost puts the 'mountain game' in easy mode - which was the point of spending time to find good locations without eating ALL the chiral network. I have placed requests for upgrades on Ziplines as I understand that is supposed to help others 'See them' but so far I've only noticed a single Zipline being used.......
Should I focus on Bridge Contracts, and if so, should I have 'Show All' turned on? I have it set to 'limited' to try and keep the visual 'noise' at a minimum.

People are saying its best turned on, but all I feel like is I'm going to go out in the world and everything's gonna be taken care of already lol. Ladders everywhere, ropes everywhere, ziplines all set up, roads all set up.
I feel like I'm coming in the game so late that I will have 0 contribution because everything is already built.
I could be wrong. Still haven't started a game yet.
Btw, ty all for the great information.
don't
After my first play-through <start to finish> I've lost count how many times I found myself in situations where things where not there "yet" - or not available as I had no progressed.
Oh sure shelters spawning/bridges - yeah ok that's nice - but as you get deeper in the game your going to find yourself wanting materials for roads and things. Ladders/ropes become trivial.
And even then I didn't always agree with other players solutions let alone the game tended to fall short.
Bottom line = don't feel like its being spoiled that everything is already there - as it won't be.
They did a good job balancing it.
now if you want a major challenge? Turn it all off - but be warned - you will find it very very hard as you get into the late stage of the 2nd region and the End Game areas.
I suggest playing with online enabled, there are shared lockers where players share their unused equipment and stuff like that, there is a sense of community working together there.
Kabob, you could really do me a favor by turning sharing on. Apparently at some point you either came across one of my signs, structures, or vehicles and gave me some likes. You're now on the list of players that I've interacted with in game and I have formed a strand contract with you which increases the likelyhood of your structures appearing on my map. My network of zips goes to each and every location but I don't have a direct line from the Waystation North of Mtn Knot to the Distribution Center North of Mtn Knot (have to go the long way around or use a vehicle). Sure could use the benefit of seeing some of your zips placed along this route. If I see them I'll give them a ton of likes, that way if you like, you can form a strand contract with myself and hopefully find some of my structures of use in your deliveries.
I was going to show a screenshot of my network as you did but realized that would be a spoiler as it would show areas some players have yet to discover.
I'll look for your name in my bridge contracts. I 'did' go ahead and turn on 'SHOW ALL' out of curiosity and it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. Plus I've advanced enough in the game and by my own hand that it doesn't feel overwhelming, even when I make a new connection to the network. I have found a few new objects which were useful to me, but since others 'can' dismantle these, I'm a bit hesitant to incorporate them into my 'network'.
I do add a ton of likes (sometimes I can reach 1000) on everything useful to me and besides doing this multiple times on objects I do incorporate, I also upgrade others structures in the hope they DON'T dismantle them.
The only downside so far is having to occasionally 'delete' the copies in my game - usually bridges that block the ziplines at Mama's. I get the use for bridges now as players worried about completing ALL the special deliveries need them to transport the mass quantities in a timely fashion on the harder difficulties.
I have managed to complete the Ziplines further using only 3 others already placed - Now I can go from South Knot city, all the way into the mountains and to North Distribution Center and everywhere in between, with another split leading to the Timefall Farm. So yeah, BB does a lot of clapping.
When you enter an area first, there is no connection. You have to "conquer" it yourself. Only after you set the connection up, structures of other players will pop up. But only structures that you have unlocked or that you will unlock very soon.
And even then, the amount of structures made by other players is limited. For example, once i unlocked ziplines, i saw the occasionally zipline here and there that wasn't connected to anything, but it gave me a choice to add my own ziplines to it. And structures deteriorate over time.
The online mode is extremly well designed to prevent players not being able to contribute and to prevent players not having to place their own structures. In addition, no one can take stuff away from you. You have to leave stuff behind to make it eligible for other players, and even then, players might deliver your things to a terminal where you can retrive them, rather than using your items themselves.
In addition, some things are almost impossible to do in offline mode (or extremly "grindy"), like building roads, since they cost so many materials that you kinda want to rely on other players contributing to roads, too.
Playing online is the intended and recommended way to play.
