Yes you can get thrown off the trike. I've had it happen once, but the situation was so catastrophic and annoying I just reloaded the game so it doesn't count.
I've seen a lot of people talk trash about the trike probably since they're not able to control and climb with it. It's a good vehicle, but it's not going to do everything. The truck specifically you mentioned is going to be for *huge* loads and temperature-sensitive deliveries. Now about skeletons... well since you're talking about the power skeleton and trying to include that in reasoning, the best thing I can say is keep playing.
The power skeleton is useless for a different reason. Just make sure you don't miss a certain prepper when you're stranded way out in a certain part of the map trying to get home, and you'll unlock something you're going to want to get to Level 3 ASAP.
For now though the power skeleton just lets you ignore weight limits and stack cargo like a madman ignoring the whole concept of balance. You'll feel the difference when you eventually stop using it even while just getting off the trike to complete a delivery.
if you're skillful enough, you can definitely take the trike through crazy terrain and dangerous areas, that little thing is a beast if you have the technique.
only troubles you run into with a bike is making bad jumps and getting cargo damage, messing up in mule or BT areas and getting taken off, running out of battery, having it out in the rain too long and it gets destroyed, or like you said submerged.
but the exo skeletons are really just for players who want the on-foot gameplay with a sort of handicap towards one area of game, same with the trike, just another option to play the game with.
Maybe the directors cut will bring flat tyres, axle damage and other stuff that makes it wiser to walk through certain areas. However whether the directors cut will be on PC isn't yet known and it'll probably be paid DLC/standalone.
