I'd say forget the bike. I know it seems valuable now, but soon you'll be getting annoyed with the amount of vehicles littering the roads and landscape.
As for BT's, I only fight them when I need crystals. Otherwise I'll just slap on some sandalweed on my feet and just crouch walk between them. Just pay attention to the odradek, that tells you what direction the closest BT is and how close it is to you.
The first thing you have to look at is the direction the Odradek is facing. Remember it always faces the nearest BT, so you should never move forward that direction. Try to turn in a way you always make the Odradek face a side or your back, but never go forward if the Odradek is facing to your front.
Then you have the light and spining speed. When first detected, you can just keep walking, at least as long as the Odradek spins "slowly". When you get close enough, Odradek's spin will be faster and at that point you should crouch. If at some point the light turns yellow and the spin speed is even faster, then you should hold your breath and keep walking until the light turns blue again. Of course, you should always keep moving, walking away from the nearest BT, in other words walking away from the direction the Odradek is facing.
At least up to chapter 3 it's been working for me in normal difficulty, I don't know if it would work in harder difficulties or later chapters.
If a BT catch you while you are on a bike it going to trigger the typical slowdown (the circle of tar with people trying to trip you over), at that time you can have to decide if to get down of your bike or just power it through the tar with the bike boost (unless you are on hard/very hard and if you stay on your bike on the tar you going to trigger a boss battle no matter what).
What I did on that part was to use the bike trying to avoid BT's but I failed horrible to do so triggering 2 boss battles... but don't worry, if you escape the boss battle the BT's will not show for a short period of time so use that as a time to escape and go pass the BT area.
It just halts its momentum while the flashy thing on your shoulder activates.
You can't see the BTs unless you're standing still / crouching, and not holding your breath, so you'll be driving through without any idea of exactly where the BTs *are* within that region.
