"Oh no. however will I get this stack of chilled food all the way to another city in seven minutes to get that S rank now that I'm on VERY hard!?... Oh right I have a truck with climate control and a floating highway." (Hello, rounding out my Great Deliverer rating).
It makes the tutorial zone a bigger slog, but overall Gear and Structures are the same main factor for "Too far to S rank in the time limit even with a truck, unless you have a long chain of ziplines" banana stickers on Very Hard as they are regular hard.
It really isn't. There are no in-game rewards or extra achievements to unlock other than grinding out LLL ranks on premium deliveries, the requirements of which are the same on any difficulty.
Very Hard only adds to the tedium with things like keeping your balance, managing Timefall damage, and increased risk from BT's and MULES, none of which are very challenging to begin with. It may make the game more fun for some people, but it's really just an afterthought. It exists only for bragging rights in a game whose combat isn't exactly worth bragging about.
Any game that lets you change difficulty on the fly was never designed to be a test of skill.
Meanwhile, I'm getting more and more tired of artificial banana sticker value inflation. One game in recent memory after years of EA, on launch had a brand new bug where the intro sequence can kill you by glitching the fire extinguisher to be floating in the air intangible.
So of course rather than fix that, they instead made it so spawning a working fire extinguisher rather than sit through world generation again disabled cheevos. To much bragging and back patting all around.
We are all getting older. We don't have time for "If you want a different difficulty setting, restart the whoooooole gaaaaaaame" even on the most polished and bug free experience.
And considering Death Stranding, much as I love it, is still prone to clipping my bikes into the center of the earth (even postgame one of my bikes is absorbed deep into hillsides, entombed and protected from the rain) or making antimater bombs explode by slowly reversing up the exit ramp... yeah, thank god I can change the difficulty to very hard when I Feel like it between jobs, rather than pick one or the other.
Making people want to Git Gud because it's COOL rather than 'Meet par" is a lesson everyone tries to cover up, though. That's why you see people masturbating about Darksouls, then awkwardly cry 'Well uh... Heater shield is overpowered. Did I Say parry was a skill? I actually meant parrying was for casuals" when you express your appreciation for the fact Warrior started with some of the best equipment in the game, and replays are that much faster thanks to not starting you with deliberately garbage gear.
