Can you play this game as a shooter, killing enemies?

The idea of a "walking Fed-Ex simulator" does not sound appealing at all. A preachy story wouldn't compensate for lack of entertaining gameplay, and this being a console port the visuals won't be awe-inspiring either.

So tell me, is it possible to play this game in a more visceral and violent fashion than just walking from point A to point B, running away from enemies or smacking them with your FedEx box? The reviews speak mention a multitude of weapons, but can I use them effectively or will it result in "game over, you lost" type of deal?

PS: My Char slept now around 10 times and has done more than 50 deliveries ...

THE REBELLS I KILLED and burned , didn't respawn ! Nobody in that two camps ...
even when you get new missions to go there again ! (J sent me again there, and to collect poison gas canisters there)

Only ONCE ONE !!! guy respawned to defend that camera , but I am now to lazy to kill him and I have stolen their cars too, so he is always to late :-) ...

only setback is, that BB get's mad when you kill one ...
Solution

1.) Knock them ALL out ... untill you get that info , it is secure to pass now
2.) Kill 2-3 with headshots and calm down BB, do it again, until all have paid for their crime
3.) wrap them into that bags and load them onto your truck
4.) Burn them all at once (stay close with your truck to the console)
5.) area cleared ... SEEMS !!! forever (maybe as long as you don't change map) or trigger special quests in that area !

The hell it isn't a preachy story. I've seen worse from old scribes but this monstrosity is its own level of cajoling the mind meats. Goal, Help everyone. Destination, Death.
It sounds polite and simple but life isn't that.

My advice, just enter the game and play it. Take your time, listen to the dialoques, understand the story.
For me: I was happily suprised the game is designed, Im kinda addicted to it atm.

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but you can technically play this game like a shooter just fine. Granted, you can't kill humans without running them to the incinerator, but you can use lethal weapons on BTs after covering them with your blood (the game even tells you about this mechanic and explains that it even does more damage to them).

So, if you need to feel like Billy Badass while playing this game, find yourself a BT area where they spawn multiple large BTs and go nuts.

Use your hematic grenades to cover them with your blood (and do a bit of damage) then shoot them with lethal rounds in the blood-stained areas. I believe that's the actual intention for players with the lethal weapons, because lethal rounds seem to do the best damage to BTs when you cover them with your blood.

OK....so no "instant death/roadkill" problem...good to know.
I even shot a mule with a bola gun while he was standing in the river - didn't drown...thought that was amusing.

You can use lethal weapons to kill MULEs but there isn't a single benefit to using them over nonlethal variants that can almost instantly knock them out even on very hard. Killing them just means you have to waste time dealing with the corpse. You never have to do a stealthy approach and I find it boring to do so anyway.

AFAIK the benefit is that mules won't respawn after killing them. But yes, it is supposed to be overpriced.

I've never tried it myself but I think killing MULEs just increases their time to respawn which isn't a good thing, as on very hard they drop an insane amount of loot.

It results in a game over if you don't take them to a incinerator. Your not mean to shoot and kill humans in this game.

You can.

You can, but it's not actually meant to be played like that. However you can shoot humans without worrying about them going nuclear if you use non-lethal rounds or melee.

As for the other types of enemies, you'll need to use hematic rounds.
