I understand there will be a lot of walking involved regardless of the playstyle, what I am asking is whether you are forced into a "non-violent" approach, or is it possible to "run and gun"?
What do you mean? It's not a mechanic I'm aware of.
Corpses will lead to a game over if you dont remove them. Bringing them to a crematory for example.
This is not a shooter, its a story driven game...now to simply answer your question, yes, you can shoot enemies to death, but only later in the game.
Is this a fun shooter? no, it is not.
If you are looking for a visceral shooter game, then Death Stranding is not for you.
Hmm, that certainly sounds tedious. Can't you, like, burn them on the spot or something? Use a flamethrower, maybe?
My question was motivated by a desire to understand the nature of the game. It's got the GOTY Steam award, and it's on sale now, so I'm considering purchase. But the reviews and descriptions just failed to impress me enough. I'm not a big fan of walking simulators, but I like open world games. The story is touted as a big pro, but I feel it could go either way if it gets too preachy. Which is why I picked the question of whether you can engage in violent gunplay: it's an indicator of the game's flexibility both playstyle- and narrative-wise.
In this case, the game wont give you this flexibility
You can engage in more than gun-play, but the nature of the game, for lore reasons, let's just say, that actually killing humans, is bad.
the way the game handles dead bodies, is by burning them in a very specific places, because of lore reasons, the body goes through a transformation and will release bad things into the atmosphere, I don't want to say anymore though
You play this game for your own little adventure. Its your own journey. Sure there is a story in the background, but its waaaay to slow to keep you focused on playing the game I would say.
For me personally the fun is seeing your very own progress. When Sam (the main protagonist) enters a new area its like you are exposed to the wild nature. No streets, just grass, hills, stones and every other thing that slows your down. And its dangerous to walk in this nature because you are not a hero, just a almost normal guy. But after doing your first delivery into the wilds, almost died doing that, you head towards home.
Now the second delivery begins... and you already know the route to the destination. Not only this... you created a path to this destination. Maybe you will even find a safer and/or shorter route. You walk on the path you used before, and with every delivery it gets easier and easier and the reaction of the receiver of your package is so wholesome if you did a good job. And you want to do a good job, you want to connect this destroyed world!
Even after many hours you will feel the progress, you want the likes of your recievers. You want to the perfect delivery and wîthstand the enemies!
And if I don't bother with the cremations, will it allow me to complete the game still? Maybe it will be more difficult, but possible nevertheless?
That's a relief. How soon do you get wheels? I enjoy open world, but slow walking just sounds like a needless time sink.
No, thats a game over. Imageing it like the corpse beeing a atomic bomb, you just cant let them laying around.
