Not able to cut
This contains spoilers to game mechanics!

I tried to make the topic vague to avoid spoilers.

But I'll say it here again:

THIS DISCUSSES GAME MECHANICS THAT YOU GET AFTER LIKE.. 20+ HOURS!

The problem is this: I can't cut the cord of red BTs.
I've only seen a red BT twice so far, and both times, I've gotten VERY close.... the cord is LITERALLY FLOATING IN SAM'S FACE, and the prompt to cut the cord just does not show up, not even for a split second....

Am I just being dumb? Is there some interaction with Power Gloves or something that you can't cut cords if you have those on?
Has anyone had this same problem? Am I just doing it wrong? Do you have to be close enough to sniff the BTs butt to cut the cord and even though the cord is floating around that's not the part you can cut?

Anyone able to help?
Thank you very much.

EDIT:
SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM:
The cord you see flying around, is not a real thing in the game, it's just a graphical thing. Like snow/rain on the screen.
You shouldn't try to chase it, or go after it.
You just need to get close to the BT itself, without alerting it.

You need to get a specific item via the main story to be able to cut it. Did you get it ?

Usually you need to get close, crouching/not breathing and the prompts appears, it doesnt seem to be necessary to be approaching them from the back.

I did all that, I've gone way past the point you get the cord cutters, I've cut a bunch of normal BTs before and it worked fine.

I was crouching, crawling around the BT, with the cord floating right there in Sam's face, no prompt to cut it.
I went up and down the length of the cord, trying to find a place where I could cut it... nothing.
Then I just slowly crawled right next to the BT, got caught and rage quit.

I just tried it for the fourth time, I was right next to the cord, literally floating all over Sam, and there was no prompt to cut it.

To clarify, this was a Red BT, is it just impossible to cut a RED BTs cord before some story cutscene or trigger?

EDIT: Found a youtube video of someone killing a red BT, and looks like it was just me being stupid for thinking that the cord you see flying around is actually real....
It's just a graphical thing... you just need to get close enough and the prompt activates even if you can't see it. -______-

According to this website below, it is possible to cut the cord of a Red BT so i don't really know, you should be able to.

I'm having a problem in the area where the timefall storm is heavy between Geologist and Heartman. Some of the BTs are buried in the snow and as a result I can't cut their cords. Suggestions?

I figured out the "cord" cutting thing right away fortunately. To your defense though, it makes sense to assume the cord coming of the BT is what you need to cut. I think they actually made a design error by not using these cords as the actual umbilical - it just makes so much more sense for the game lore in my opinion.

you never need to, just carry blood bags in your utility bag and carry grenades.

For the first maybe 3/4 of the game that's true, but later they introduce harder enemies that don't take damage from grenades, so for those, you either need to go around them, or cut their cord. Some sources/sites say hematic bullets/ammunition weapons do work on those, but I haven't tested that out myself.

The hematic bullets are a waste if you still have grenades available, after you dispense all those grenades-even rank ones that disperse a cloud of blood... they can affect more targets than a singular bullet with 1/5th the blood and 1/4 the effectiveness.

But hey, im not defending this bad game. im just saying the grenades are a cure all for all these encounters.

How far in to the game are you?
I'm saying there are (some) enemies that take no damage, no damage at all, from grenades.... you can not kill them even if you threw a dozen of them at it.

Crouch, approach the bt, hold your breath as soon as odradek starts clapping really fast, spam interact button (F). Easier than throwing grenades according to the mouthbreather above me. Especially since bt's can respawn (in certain areas) and you can easily run out of grenades...

dude, i beat the game.
its bad, use grenades. if you cant complete this terrible game you probably think the story is something of the gods and should be cherished.

Are you playing on very hard? or are you just bad?
