How does the MULE ping work??

I'm not talking about canecling it.
I'm talking about how sometimes they ping my cargo, get to the marked cargo location, send a second ping and this one doesn't spot my cargo, but if they send a THIRD ping then it gets marked.

And sometimes they send a ping and none of my delivery cargo gets pinged. How does this work?

EDIT: I made tests and I think I got it.

MULEs will keep sending pings everytime they go to a pinged cargo position and find nothing. And if you are INSIDE the MULE orange area (marked in the map) you will get pinged.

The poles with the yellow lights that surround the MULE area are not indicative of the MULE ping range. Usually there are 10 meters or so of difference. But when you walk past said poles, you will trigger the alarm and the MULE camp will emit a ping.

As I said above, if you are outside the orange area, you will not get pinged regardless of the cargo you have, as you are outside their scanning range. I was confused at first because the orange ping effect still reached me, but the cargo was not marked. It wasn't because I was outside their effective range.

When you haven´t got any charge (except tools and weapon), the ping doesn´t mark you,

When you walk past the posts marked with yellow, they will scan you and send a pulse in the direction of the MULEs, if you scan the same direction yourself it will cancel the scan and you won't get pinged.
