so while i am waiting for DS to be completely downloaded i got some questions to you guys:

should i play online or offline? i read some comments about the game being to easy in online mode because to many ppl created structures.

how is the difficulty? i like a challenge and i am long enough in the "game" to know what i am doing so should i start directly on very hard?

I made a post on this subject. I feel like you should play at what ever difficulty you typically play all your games at. As far as online, I feel like it not only makes it to easy, but it also takes away any need for planning and deprives you of the satisfaction of placing things in the world that are useful. Plus, TOO MUCH stuff get shared. My personal recommendation after 90+ hours of gameplay, do your first play through offline.

i saw your thread =) and i read that the normal and hard difficulty seem to be way to easy thats why i was asking.

do you know, if online mode is needed to complete any of the achievements in this game?

Depends what kind of experience you're after - if you want to reconnect the world yourself then play offline and you'll have to lay every ladder, rope and road etc. At the start this make sense in the world as there are not many porters.

Later in the game it makes more sense for helping items to show up as you'll start to encounter other porters on your travels.

Normal mode is very easy
Hard is supposed to be the correct skill level to play the game
Very Hard is probably the one I'd go for if I was to restart.

I can't speak for difficulty level as I always play games at normal/default difficulty because I feel like that is what the developer intended the experience to be like. As far as NPC porters, I started running into them when I went offline. They actually made the game feel less lonely for me then having hundreds of online player structures.

The only reason, imo, (outside of wanting slightly more difficult combat and faster gear degradation) to play Very Hard initially would be because the highest order completion "ranking" is from Very Hard - thus you wouldn't have to repeat orders or replay to do them, if one is interested in such things.

The gear degradation in Very Hard can be fairly substantial at times adding a bit of management challenge. Combat will hit harder/have more hit points etc. but if you're seasoned re combat in games it's not that much more to overcome once you're get a handle on game mechanics.

Other than that, as others said, just play with whatever you're comfortable with. You can change difficulty whenever you want, basically, too.

Feel free to state your business, it is just an online meme that get's used in my world heavily, so I'm kind of conditioned reacting that way :cozycrashfish:

I would disable signs -- they are everywhere and an eye-sore. I would play on max difficulty from the start (started on hard and wished I'd gone VH from the beginning). I think the game will be best experienced totally offline (I will definitely play through more than once as with every Kojima game), but would probably recommend starting online initially and seeing if the clutter of other players structures is welcomed or annoying to you.

General advice: Just start every game on the hardest difficulty. You can thank me later.

No reason to play on anything below very hard. Even then the game is still on the easy side. Bosses can be challenging, so that's good. Playing online makes deliveries trivial, everything is already built.
