Flashing Eye Bug With New AMD Drivers (20.7.2)
A new AMD GPU driver was released today that supposedly increases performance, I was happy to try it out but after I got in I noticed a strange bug with Sam and Diehard-man's eyes. They would flicker all kinds of colors as they moved, whether in a cutscene or me moving the camera during gameplay. This is after I installed the new driver of course, this bug was not present before. I'm just looking for someone to confirm this issue so I know it's not me! Seems random for it to suddenly happen if it's not the new driver causing this.

Here's an example I got while in-game: https://imgur.com/a/V2lDNEt

Keep in mind this is just a frame of it, when it's actually happening it's flashing different colors very fast, and it doesn't cover the whole eye either.

Here's my specs:
Ryzen 5 2600
AMD RX 5600 XT
16GB DDR4@2666MHZ
Game installed on a Kingston A400 SSD

Fixed for now by downgrading to 20.7.1. I also think this is only a problem with the 5600 XT. I've seen a couple videos with the 5700 XT on the new drivers and it wasn't there as far as I could tell.

I have the same problem on a 5600XT. We might have to write that on the AMD forum, as it didnt happen on 20.7.1.

Great to know it's not just me. The new driver update was technically optional actually, so I believe it's within reason it may have some problems. Doesn't mean it's not annoying to be told to update and then to suddenly have this problem, but still.

I have a 5700 XT with 20.7.2 drivers and I do not have this issue. Maybe it is card specific? Drivers increased my FPS AVG from 77 to 98 at 3360x1440, High settings, FideliteyFX: ON.
Cut scenes are weird though in terms of FPS. My FPS drops to 48-55 AVG on 20.7.1. Haven't tested it on 20.7.2 yet.

Yeah, like I said I've only heard of this issue from 5600 XT users. Here's a video if you want to see it in motion: https://streamable.com/1ptf2f.

Now imagine that but with the super detailed close-ups the game has during cutscenes. It's extremely distracting. The new driver was also advertised as an 8-9% increase on a 5700, so maybe they just didn't test the 5600 as much? Seems like a gross oversight, but I'm just guessing.

Still happening with the new driver 20.8.1

Anyone knows a way to send info about this to AMD? I originally thought it was intentional, Kojima games having weird graphical effects and glitch-looking interference ain't nothing new, but this seems to be unintentional since I've only seen it mentioned related to the 5600 xt.

Damn, it's still happening? You could use the bug reporter built into the Radeon Software, it's the bug symbol at the top, to the left of the question mark. I would do it myself but you can only report a bug with the version you have installed, and I don't wanna update again just to do it.

I have to ask though, is the game performing any better with the new drivers than before? I've been having FPS drops driving on roads, as well as straight crashes to desktop or even my PC having to restart. Although admittedly I've only had 4 crashes in almost 40 hours, a lot better than some.

Haven't played much but the performance seems fine other than the flashing eyes issue.

I was having issues with sleep/hibernation mode before the latest driver update, but that seems to have gotten better with this one.

I already sent a bug report through feedback.amd.com, but thanks for the info about the bug reporter.

lol. Updated to 20.8.2 and it is still happening. Might as well just continue playing with it even if it is kinda distracting

Bought the game today, also experiencing this issue on an MSI Radeon 5600 XT Gaming X

Incredible how it hasn't been fixed yet. I dropped the game to wait until I can play it without worries of crashes and whatnot. I won't say you should, but we shouldn't have to put up with all of these problems, especially with little to no communication about patches. It's a shame because I find the game really enjoyable, but it's almost like the more you put into it (constructing roads, placing structures, getting 5 stars with people), the more chances of a crash. I imagine someone who sped through the game had less of a problem.

Not in my game with RX 5700 XT. Latest driver 20.8.3.

This seems to be a problem with 5600 XT's only. It's been this way since the start. I don't know why that is, but it is. I'm glad it's working for you.

have you tried disabling "surface format optimisations" in amd driver panel

sometimes that fixes texture related stuff, and in some games you get a huge speed up

ATI always had fun driver issues. Good to see their soul lives on. :p
