I can win regular races just fine, but time trials are crazy. Any tips?

normally i play on steam deck and the game runs flawless. I installed this on a windows 11 pc and the game hangs after every race making it unplayable. ive tried all the usual compatible options but nothing resolves it. any ideas?

I am not a racing gamer but this one looks actually fun. It looks a bit faster than the 3rd one (I have watched 1-2 videos from both of them so maybe not enough reference) but the 3rd seems to be a bit more realistic on the technical side? and better graphics ofc. Again I am an absolute noob when it comes to those types of games. One last thing, is there a controller you would recommend? The normal xBox layout looks pretty good I think with the higher left joystick an lower digipad....
