why is abundant step a standard action in game?
It's ability reads move action, but using it takes a full action... the casting time is "standard action" on it and after using it, cannot do anything else. Is it bugged or working as intended? It reads like you should be able to leap through space and punch someone in the face, but it seems to be more just to jump in front of them and scare them a bit til next round?

WotR Dimension Door spell doesn't have this language but it probably is working that way. Cannot remember the last time I used Dimension Door in combat.

So this could be the spell and ability working as intended, but Owlcat screwing up the description of the ability. Or it could be a bug. I would bug report it in game just in case. Alt+B to report.

The advantage to a monk of using Abundant Step is in tabletop you can have opponents on different levels that this would allow the monk to teleport to that he might not be able to reach otherwise. You can also travel a large amount of distance, 400'+40'/level, to any area within that range that the character has seen before. In tabletop, this can be an enormously useful ability. It just doesn't translate well into usage for a computer game.

I'm confused, because after I use it, I cannot move or do a standard action, which is the same as any full round action spell I use. Why is it not listed as a full round action like enlarge size?

If I am understanding you correctly, the reason it lists a "move action" is to differentiate it from teleportation so that you know a character that is unable to move, cannot use the ability... unlike teleportation, where a stationary character can presumably use teleportation.

I love this game, but man, the descriptions and uses of abilities are so confusing.

My monk moves super fast, so it would usually make more sense to just run towards someone than to use this ability unless I'm trying to skip some aoe spell/trap or gap in the terrain.

Abundant Step is a bit strange because it is a move action that duplicates the effect of Dimension Door. Dimension Door itself is a bit odd, because normally it is a standard action, but it specifically says you cannot take any other actions after using Dimension Door.

So that is how Abundant Step works -- it's only a move action to use it, but you cannot take any other actions after using it. If you want to use another standard or move action on the same round, you need to do that first, then use Abundant Step.

I find the standard action cast time 1 round lasting spells all work a bit wonky. I also find True strike is also really hard to use properly to the point i don't bother with it anymore.

Thanks for all the helpful answers, I can definitely see its utility in tabletop to how its used in-game. At the very least, outside of combat, it allows my commander to get to secret loot stashes, so it's hardly a wasted ki power.

Only time I've made use of it is killing monsters like playful darkness, those with such ridiculous AC that losing a turn to prep for my next hit isn't really a loss.
