season pass 1 has:
inevitable excess, a expansion that takes place at the end of the game, poor reception cause of wild balancing issues, gives rewards in base game after beating it in certain ways
through the ashes, a self contained lower level adventure that takes place paralel to the main campaign, specifically act 1, can also give a couple goodies
treasure of the midnight isles, a weird rogue like mode sorta, can either be played on its own or as part of the main campaign
season pass 2 has:
the last sarkorians, which includes a new companion and their new class, shifter as well as the companion's own dedicated quest line
the lord of nothing, a continuation of the separate through the ashes adventure(you can also create a new character for it instead)
a dance of masks, a final expansion that takes place in the 5th act of the game, a sort of 'final hoorah!', many have compared it to mass effect 3's citadel DLC, you go back to kenabres during the late game and new adventures unfold there, includes a more dedicated romance sequence for your chosen partner as well
Paid DLC are Season 1 pass, Season 2 Pass, Commanders pack DLC
There are also several free DLC's you can download.
Since you already have the base game, You Can NOT buy the GOTY edition bundle to complete your DLC purchase. So buy the DLC Season 1 and 2 pack, and the Commanders DLC, that will be the same as the GOTY bundle edition.
For just some afterthought DLC they're asking for the same price tag as Spider-Man, Persona 5, or Half-Life Alyx
As a result, the reviews don't usually reflect people making an educated assessment of the expansion and deciding if they want to buy it or not based on that. Instead, the reviews reflect people being pissed that the expansion isn't what they expected (regardless of what it actually is, since each user has their own imagination of what the expansion should have been).
Anyway, buy them or don't. They "add" to the game, but there's a lot of game already, so DLC is best if you think you'll put a lot of additional hours into this game.
If you'd rather play another game, no reason to buy more into this game. DLC is for folks that want more of this game (or whatever game the DLC is for).
For example, I had expected them to add more mythic paths. They did not. None of the expansions add additional mythic paths. I would have really liked to see them add weapon creation mechanics (like as per the item creation feats). They did not. I would have liked to see more of the racial options added to the game. They did not. And more of the base classes. They added the shifter...but that's it.
I don't hate the content within the expansions, but it wasn't what I was hoping for when I bought the season pass(s).
As someone who has played spider-man, persona 5, and this game - I find it kind of funny that the game with infinitely more replay-ability than the games you listed for comparison is the one you're trying to downplay.
But they released it after having released the main game. So you'd already be invested in your main character, playing the main story, and the DLC adds nothing to your main character or main story, but instead wants you to create a new character for a new story that's only loosely tied to the story. It's more of a new game than a DLC.
Furthermore, the DLC, unlike the main game, punishes certain builds very hard. You can't just play any class and expect to have fun, you have to actually build specific classes for that DLC (or set the difficulty really low).
But like if you are new to pathfinder, now that everything is already out, I think the through the ashes DLC is fine.
