Buildings are still worth it to get you to that point and at least I still found mortal units useful. So recruitment buildings make sense, also for demon.
I think buildings boosting stats dont work for the demons, but the demons are still good (some demons more than others). You possibly wont be able to completely rely on demons, at least I wasnt able to.

really mild spoiler ahead Due to what happens in the previous acts, your armies will be disbanded (that is always the case) and you need to recruit your generals again (for free, but need to wait for some days)
Your MC must first gain a good reputation with the various factions in the Abyss (Act 4) before they will respect him and consider him worthy enough, so unfortunately they don't send demonic units until Act 5.
