Why Go Devil?
Alright, so after playing around with the Midnight Isles for a while, I've come to the realization that the Devil Mythic Path is honestly quite lack luster. In fact, I'd even say it is mechanically worse than Dragon, but is saved by having a better sense of story progression in the base campaign.

Upon becoming a Devil, you effectively lose all your abilities from your previous Mythic Path, but don't really get anything to replace them. And even worse, the missing abilities remain in your ability bar, you just have 0 spell slots to use them.

And maybe I'm not paying enough attention, but these devil powers seem like a massive downgrade from what Aeon and Azata grant you in terms of unique abilities.

As an Aeon, you go from massively powerful Gaze attacks which can effectively shut down the most powerful creatures in the game, to being able to cast some rather unimpressive buffs on your allies.

Where as for the Aeon, you lose access to your super powers, such as the permanent haste, or Zippy Magic.

So outside of role playing aesthetics, I can't figure out why anybody would actually want to change their path to Devil, when it seems so much worse than the path you were already following?

The only good thing I've heard about Devil has to do with it being able to spam unlimited Hellfire Rays. I don't know the exact details but a dedicated ray caster could abuse it.

Yeah, Devil is bad. Just go for achievement I guess.

Even Hellfire Ray at will is just an ability - not a spell, so you can't metamagic it and stuff. Pretty disappointing, the only "semi-good" thing is a decree that makes enemies fight each other - if you go compulsion caster.

Some devil abilities are good, unlimited hellfire ray is one, but some others do deal a good amount of damage. Plus there is the sword of justice and the demon rage.
ANd you don't lose your aoen/azata powers, only some. Aeon loses the aeon gaze but that's it, you can still cast some good aeon spells and you can use bane to dispel invisibility with the reality ability.

While it's no demon or angel, it's still holds its ground with some getting used to.

Last I checked (in the main campaign), you kept 2 Azata Superpowers (and since Azata barely has any powers relative to, say Lich, 2 was enough). This doesn't make any sense since Aeon loses Gazes, but it made Devil a very strong caster. You give up Aivu (who was nerfed anyway) for Decrees/Seals, and eventually, you get Hell's Authority, which gives you Demon Rage AND Sword of Heaven, and Azata can refresh these resources... Granted, this is mostly for DLC. Aeon>Devil may be meh, but Azata>Devil felt too strong.

If they changed it so that Devil lost Superpowers, I think that's the right move.

Edit: Just checked. Devil>Azata keeps Superpowers.
