If you want a secondary bloodline, there's a Mythic Feat which grants you both the spells, and the special abilities.
as for why I like sorcerer moer than wizard?.... spells..... sorcerer may be limited in the amount of spells compared to a wizard.... but they can cast their spells more frequently..... for example.... chain lightning is lvl 6 spell.... I can CHOOSE to cast all my lvl 6 spells as chain lightning.... and for lvl 7 spells I can just metamagic em all with bolster... lvl 8 I could metamagic with empower... and lvl 9 metamagic with maximize.... toss in some metamagic rods in the mix to them and my lvl 8 and 9 empowered and maximized spells are now both empowered and maximized..... all with the option to be able to cast other spells in between as needed.... if you tried to do the same with a wizard and set up all slots for chain lightning... then you would only have access to one spell essentially....
so going your elemental specialist route you might get that bonus to damage by 1..... meanwhile if I take ascendant element... all 3 abundant casting... and improved metamagic bolster... and heighten metamagic.... i'd be able to cast from lvl 6-9 spells with one spell.... at 10 spells per day thats 40 chain lightning spells.... with every single one boosted by draconic bloodline AND bolster..... for plus 2 damage..... and as Azata that goes crazy....zippy magic = chain lightning hits twice... bolstered, empowered, maximize with rods.... favorable magic = they roll twice for save and take worst result.... course if I took favorite metamagic empower and maximize... it gets more insane.... all lvl 9 spells are bolstered, empowered, maximized without using rods.... and my lvl 8 and 7 spells would be the ones to use metamagic rods to make them both empowered and maximized....
a bonus too is as a sorcerer with the elemental bloodline as primary.... you can get scorching ray of your element..... and do the same thing with it.... from lvl 2 to 5 you could mix and match bolster, empowered, maximize on it and end up having that as your go to damage for trash mobs..... thats like 40 times you can cast it... and with azata spells you can restore your casting of spells too.... joy of life restores all spells up to 5th lvl (can cast 3 times per day)... and heroes never surrender restores all spells up to lvl 7 (can cast 2 times per day)....
which if you really break it down... not counting bonus to attribute.... you get 10 spells per day per spell level.... a lvl 2 spell scorching ray you could cast from lvl 2-5 with metamagics.... 40 times normally.... with azata spell restoring.... that brings it to 240 times you can cast scorching ray of different levels of strength..... and for chain lighting a lvl 6 spell you can cast 40 times normally.... 80 times per day.... and as a sorcerer you would still be able to cast things like haste and dimension door.....
ElementalSpecialist10/X-bloodedSorc1/Loremaster9
Full conversion to fire, Red+Brass+Gold draconic bloodlines for +3 fire damage per damage die of spell cast, metamagic enhanced spells cast as standard actions which allows you to position + cast or cast 3 metamagic spells per round by casting as move action with certain mythics.
You NEVER want to level Elemental Specialist to level 15 or higher, because you never want to split your damage into fire+untyped.
Full conversion into fire allows you to multiply your damage by an additional factor of 1.5 against targets marked with Flame Curse.
You never want to be a Sorcerer with a Wizard dip, because you'll be lagging two levels in spell progression.
You end up with 3 bonus Wizard feats, 1 bonus Sorcerer feat, 1 Loremaster Wizard bonus feat and 1 Loremaster combat bonus feat. That's more feats than a Wizard20 or a non-Seeker Sorcerer20 get.
You get 3 extra spells to add to your spellbook from Cleric/Druid spellbooks.
You retain 19 caster levels without any CL bonuses, which is enough to get the full number of rays on a Hellfire Ray.
And you can use whatever spells you want, not just Scorching/Hellfire Ray, because they will all get converted into fire.
yeah but dont look down on X-blooded sorcerers.... they can dish out quite a bit... especially Azata...
X-blooded sorcerer... elemental primary, draconic secondary... with 2 spell focus, 2 elemental focus, ascendant element, second bloodline "arcane" (+3 spell DC... extra spells... and 20th ability).... thats plus one to die roll for dragon, plus 7 spell DC... and elemental bloodline to change all damage to your element with elemental bloodline negating any resistances.... and with metamagic feats of bolstered, empowered, and maximize... and all 3 abundant casting versions....
with 10 spells per day not counting attribute bonuses... as an Azata you get...
lvl 2 spells: scorching ray bolstered = 80 casts per day
lvl 3 spells: scorching ray bolstered, empowered = 80 casts per day
lvl 4 spells: scorching ray bolstered, maximized = 80 casts per day
lvl 5 spells: scorching ray bolstered, empowered, maximized = 80 casts per day
lvl 6 spells: chain lightning bolstered = 30 casts per day
lvl 7 spells: chain lightning bolstered, empowered = 30 casts per day
lvl 8 spells: chain lightning bolstered, maximized = 10 casts per day
lvl 9 spells: chain lightning bolstered, empowered, maximized = 10 casts per day
with zippy magic all those casts per day are doubled..... with sorcerous reflex mythic feat you can cast 4 spells on the first round....(with a certain pair of boots... Boots of Arcane Persistence...you can cast a quickened version of spells you cast every 4 times... so 4 more spells in round 2 of a fight...) and with ascendant element and bloodline you can still as crossblooded take hellfire ray and change its energy type to another for your element
so within first 2 rounds you could cast like 8 scorching rays or chain lightnings or hellfire rays...
And thus you lose 1 bonus damage per die of spell damage, because you're not using 3 draconic bloodlines. Suboptimal.
School Power gives you +2 spell DC to a single school. Not only is it inferior to Wizard's Foretell (Hinder) aura or Exploiter Wizard's Potent Magic that provide a +2 effective spell DC to spells from ALL/ANY schools, it also stopped working with Expanded Arsenal starting from couple of patches ago. Worthless.
Wizard gets +3, not one, like I said earlier.
That's +6 spell DC, not 7. School Power gives +2. Nothing of this you mention is unique or exclusive to the Sorcerer, the Wizard does it all better due to one extra draconic bloodline and more feats than the Cross-Blooded sorcerer.
The number of casts per day is irrelevant due to abundant casting which gives you more than enough spells to blast any encounter in the game to smithereens with a Wizard who will output more damage. This is especially true for Azata, because Abundant Casting + Second Breath + Heroes Never Surrender = more spells than you will know what to do with. Sorcerer being able to cast more spells per rest total means nothing, because a Wizard will always have more than enough spells for any encounter and there is no real penalty for resting in this game.
Zippy Magic does not double your number of casts, it provides an extra target for your spell. This is a very important distinction.
You're not casting 4 spells per round on the same target as a Sorcerer. You're not casting more than 2 metamagic enhanced spells on the same target per round as a Sorcerer, because you cannot perform two swift actions per round, only one.
Sorcerer casts metamagic enhanced spells as a full-round action while Wizard casts as a standard action. For an Azata sorcerer this is a noticeable, but not crippling disadvantage, because it simply prevents the Sorcerer from doing a full range move and casting a metamagic enhanced spell in one round. Demon and Aeon mythic paths allow casting of spells as move actions, which means that Wizards on these mythic paths can cast 3 metamagic enhanced spells per round: swift+move+standard. On these mythic paths, the Sorcerer suffers from a massive disadvantage due to being unable to cast 3 metamagic enhanced spells per round, being limited to only 2 instead: swift+full-round.
Nothing you've mentioned gives the Sorcerer any kind of advantage over the Wizard, ESPECIALLY the X-blooded sorcerer who has less feats. Everything the Sorcerer does, the Wizard does better, because he can combine school powers, exploits and sorcerer bloodline arcanas better than a sorcerer trying to do the same (school powers and arcane reservoir scale with Wizard levels while bloodline arcanas are acquired via 1 level dip) and ends up being stronger than a pure sorcerer with or without this combination.
Is this better than doing the standard 10 AT for sneak attack spells? Which picks would you get from the loremaster? Does this work on higher difficulties?
like I said earlier... I only play sorcerers in dnd type games.... lot of my choices I could change to min max... but I dont want to.... btw arcane bloodline gives 3 spell DC when using metamagic it increases it by 1 on top of the school power of evocation which are my only damage spells I use.... I know wizards are good at being able to know every spell and able to do great when prepared... but I dont like managing spells like that.... i'd rather just know a few good spells and use them a lot.... you might like to rest whenever you run out of spells... but for me... RP wise... i prefer to keep moving and only resting when my characters are fatigued or exhausted.... mostly exhausted lol.... in Act 2 when i do strike from the sky I only rest after freeing everyone before I mop up the rest.... and in Drezen I only rest 2 times during that whole thing... lol during Act 1 I rest so little I end up clearing every single area before the messenger tells me to help defend.... so yeah... having more spells means more when you dont rest that often (lol... the first lay of hands I get for Seelah is to remove fatigue just so I can keep going forward longer without resting...)
but yeah... as a wizard you have to prepare spells.... if you prepare X amount of haste and use them up... thats it... no more haste for you.... whereas my sorcerer can cast ANY spell I know without worrying about not preparing enough.... resist energy communal... protection from energy communal.... haste... with more spells I can be more reactive..... enemy just dispelled my resist energy?.... here's another one... and another.... "I can do this all day".... whereas a wizard would have to sacrifice what spells they will limit themselves to be able to cast till they rest.... as long as I have spells available I will always be able to cast em.... dont have to worry about having X amount of haste memorized.... I can cast 80 of em... or 80 scorching rays.... or if I wanted to without having to rest and prepare... just have my character wake up one day and go.... "you know what?.... I wonder what Drezen would look like covered with 480 grease spells....
