Wrath of the Righteous or Kingmaker the better game?
Hi ive got both games, but haven't really dived into them yet, i have played KM a little and like the open world feel eg the wood land feel,
I also gave WOTR a quick whirl it seems more city and dungeon based is that correct or does it go more rural later?,
Also could someone tell me which one has the better story , and longer journey to the end , im guessing it depends a lot on the player for playtime actually, im quite a slow progress-er i like to take my time. but anyway.
and lastly which one is easier to get into in terms of combat difficulty and D&D rules.
i figured WOTR might be a bit more developed being the later game,? i only have time to play one atm the moment , while waiting for another release, any advice welcome thanks,

Kingmaker for everything you asked.

I love em both. But probably better to go Kingmaker first. Lets you get your feet wet in the game system, which will help you when you get to Wrath. And since its been out longer and is completely done, you'll get the full polished experience with most of the bugs dealt with.

Plus I think it would be hard to go back to Kingmaker after Wrath. Not because its worse, but because you'll miss all the extra classes, subclasses and other improvements.

Kingmaker is in a completed state: its story is done, all DLC's are out and it likely won't receive more patches in the foreseeable future. Kingmaker's setting generally enjoys more popularity with folks who like the traditional low-mid fantasy niche. It also has a mini game where you build your own kingdom from scratch in addition to the classic adventuring with a party.

WotR is as high fantasy as they get. With lots of ways to become different powerful creatures. You can become an angel, lich, demon, even a dragon, ect. That game is objectively more complex: having all classes and subclasses of Kingmaker. Introducing a whole lot of more classes and subclasses on top. As well as new mechanics (rideable mounts for instance). The aforementioned apotheosis into different kind of creatures is implemented as 10 additional special levels on top of normal class levels. Kinda like monster template classes back in PnP. Its mini game is somewhat similar to that of Kingmaker's, but also has pseudo HoMM-esque tactical battles as well. Which adds to the complexity. Another point is that WotR still has some DLC's coming up in the future (the next big one being released in June).

To me, WotR is the better game overall. But if you are on a tight time schedule and don't plan to do multiple playthroughts of the same game right now, then I recommend to hold off. Or at least until all DLC's are released for it. That way you likely get a better and more complete first playthrough impression.

Lot of people talk about improvements but I really dont see much... not talking about classes, etc. - there is significant increase, but that only adds compelxity to player without good knowledge of rules.

Only thing I would say load times are faster and you dont need supply for sleep... otherwise I would not say the game play differently or have some extra features..?

Kingmaker with few mods. I LIKE Wrath better, but Kingmaker IS better. Especially when you factor in Call of the Wild etc.

Kingmaker has had more time for bug fixes.

It will be harder to get into Kingmaker after skip monologe/cinematic feature you will be used to from Wrath.

Tbh, Kingmaker isn't nearly as replayable as Wrath. So it don't matter as much.

Acts 3 and 5 in WotR are wide open. Those are the longest chapters in the game (unless you skip non quest areas).

Both are excellent and among the best RPGs ever made. Play both in order.

WotR is the better game by far in terms of companions and player options. However, the game is significantly shorter than the previous one.

I suspect this may be due to the fact that outside of the attack on the Midnight Fane, the player is free to progress the main story at their own pace. Where as in the previous game, you had to wait for the game to decide when the next chapter took place. With a whopping 2 year time gap between you becoming a monarch, and the start of the Pitax War.

Be aware that kingmaker you're pretty much always on the clock and the game de facto punish you for not following a guide, quest will fail and you'll lose out reward just because you don't know the optimal path to do the content in. Wrath doesn't really have that, but in exchange there's a really crappy HoMM clone that the game would really have benefited if it wasn't in.

WoTR has a lot of stuff that isn't in kingmaker, so it might feel very restrictive if you play them out of order. I don't think I'll be able to play without enduring spell (let your buff last long enough so you don't have to constantly re cast the stuff).

Go for Wotr. Mechanics and available classes are a lot more fleshed out.

In addition to what meiam said, Kingmaker is a very long game that can be a slug for some. If you go for it first, it will be a while before you get into Wotr. :p

I loved Kingmaker though. Great Game. :) :)

I like them both. Personally, I would start with Kingmaker. It does not put you against creatures with spell resistance and lower levels and there are numerous references to Kingmaker in Wrath of the Righteous that you would not get otherwise. While I love both games, Kingmaker has a better kingdom management system (IMHO) and somehow better ending slides. And there are a number of amazing "villains" in Kingmaker. In addition, Wrath is still being patched so it will get better with time.

P.S. Just keep in mind that Kingmaker has very strict (even though generous) deadlines. Always do main quest first and exploration afterwards. Ah, and by the final chapter try to get each party member the blind fight feat in Kingmaker. You will thank me later. Because of "spoilers". :)

P.S.2 I think Wotr and Kinmgaker are roughly the same size. I would disagree WotR is significantly shorter.
