I suggest starting with Dyunk the Slave Trader: you get lots of money from him.
The Sosiel plot will progress even if you don't speak with Black Mask. You might need to pass some skill checks though (main PC only). Let me check ...
edit:
In my first run, looks like I knew who the Dire One was before seeing him - don't remember how, and don't want to take the time to review.
However, for my current run, I know I completed all Sosiel's quest before going to Middle City. I also remember talking to Black Mask later, and Sosiel still went through his scripted dialogue even though Trevor was relaxing back at camp. At that time, it was version 1.2.0 beta.
edit 2:
If you want to buy (or sell) anything, do that before killing them - except for the fleshmarket coin which will be dropped as loot after killing them.
I don`t know what happen when you free these "super evil" slaves at the end of the market, but it sounds like you better not free them.
But like the others said, do it at the end before you leave the city.
And buy the things you want from them,
And you can loot a lot of money (and other stuff) from them.
Does this change anything? Should I go ahead and start killing the slaver so that when Aivu gets taken that fight might be easier?
Also, I thought I had read that there is going to be a big fight in Nexus, and you need some of the slaves to help out. Is that in Act IV or Act V? If its Act IV, then I cannot wait until the end to kill the slavers can I?
RP-wise I'm tempted to start the fight now, but don't want to screw up any future progress nor waste my time on a fight I'm really not supposed to even try now (I'm level 15).
In my case, Aivu was abducted by cut-scene with no warning. I had only been to the Lower City, and was just starting to explore the Middle City (I think I had been to the Fleshmarkets once). I was 14th lvl at the time.
[Edit]If you haven't had Aivu abducted yet, you'll have an easier time than I did. After I rescued her, I had to fight the rest of the Fleshmarket when I exited Shed-skin's hideout. I suggest using Greater Invisibility on your squishier party members; there's quite a few archers, even after you take out the slavers.
I'm going to try going in, buying some stuff (anything I should make sure to pick up?), talk to Black Mask for Trever, and then see if I can kill the slavers without buying slaves. I'll be sure to use Social's Death Ward type ability and a good Protection from Arrows spell. See how it goes. :)
I'll have to decide if to take the pleasure slaves. If I remember what I read online correctly, having them actually hurts you in the big fight in the Nexus. But RP-wise I doubt I'd leave them behind.
Buy everything you want from the Fleshmarkets before the fight. Some of the game's best items are there. There are very few Act 5/6 vendors with new items. The gladiator slaver, Raggy, and Krebus all sell items.
I think you can buy diamonds/diamond dust from the top of the mage tower once you finish that area, which is very easy.
The fight is definitely possible without fighting the slavers separately. I did it against the entire markets after killing dyunk for the aasimar quest. It was fun and I would try it out that way.
I had only done it on core, but I just reloaded an old save and tried it on hard.
It's definitely harder - I couldn't dispel Krebus on a roll of 20 - but the saves of most of the enemies were still around 20 or less and selective sirocco dc was 29 and phantasmal killer dc was 38, and I had cleared most of Act 4 so my level/equip reflected that. Obviously I did turn based given it's such a cluster.
In my experience, this only happens if you try to attack the giant meat ball, who captured Suture. If you attack the other slavers first, you only trigger them individually. You can make this fight much easier by going around to all the other slavers and killing them first, before fighting the guy in the center.
Just make sure you allow Solsiel to talk to the masked slaver first, as he's tied to his companion quest.
