No, they just wanted to have a designated Mythic Path for each of the different alignments.
Lawful Good was already taken by Angel, so they used Gold Dragon for Neutral Good.

If it helps, Iomedae herself rebukes you to your face if she sees you turn into a gold dragon in Drezen, letting you know in her role as Pathfinder's embodiment of lawful goodness that you are abandoning paladin principles if you go the gold dragon route. That's basically the in-game equivalent of your dungeon master telling you, watch out, you're on the verge of an alignment change so you should think carefully about your choices.
Gold Dragon and Swarm that Walks were both stretch goal paths, and were not originally planned to be in the game.
As for Iomedae rebuking you, the worst I got from her was a warning telling me not to expect thanks from people for becoming a gold dragon.
Writers missed an opportunity to include a dialogue option like "It's not about earning praise, it's about doing what's right."
or that as a Gold Dragon, like Teredelve maybe you are proclaiming yourself the Champion of Drezen, like she was for Kenabras.
