yeah - thats a divinity mechanic.
Grease doesn't ignite in this CRPG, it is just used as a CC move to trip allies and enemies alike!

It did also in dragon age, and it was amazing.

It isn't oil, it's butter

This pretty much sums it up. Grease is more of a fatty greasy substance instead of an ignitable oil slick.

That one of the few things I miss in this game that has been in others it environment elements and such that can be used in fights like oil barrels and such.

environmental effects are cool, they could be implemented in a non cheesy way

It's one of the things I like best in this game, that it doesn't have gimmicky and hamfisted "synergy" forced into it.

That's personal taste. Personally I find it one of the dumbest ideas to have ever been conceived, and a massive drawback to every single game it is featured in.

Yes - it could be, and we HAVE environmental effects, they just are not over the top cheese. grease is an environmental effect, it causes the tripping condition. Entagle is an environmental effect - it causes the slowed condition - anything more on top of those conditions make it OP

I get what you're going for, but you might have to use a different metaphor/simile.

Grease burns in almost every version of dnd, but after playing Baldur's Original Sin it's refreshing to not just use that in every single encounter.

And yes I'm old enough to remember that, before some astute troller realizes it.
