Though I’m very anti-Kitsune so the above opinion is prejudiced
Apparently, the Kitsune shapeshifting is having some conflict with the Mythic Path transformations, particularly in regards to Dragon. I would say hold off on the sexy foxes, until another patch or two rolls around.
That being said, their shapeshifting does benefit from Master Shapeshifter, since it's a polymorph effect. Which means you get a Mythic boost to your Strength, Dexterity and Constitution whenever you're in human form.
If you're talking about getting mercenaries from your specific race, I think everybody does that at some point.
I've gotten unique mercenaries from being a Half Orc, an Oread, a Gnome and an Aasimar.
