Custom companions: how does their price scale?
Curious if someone is willing to parse how they (demons) calculate the price of new companions that you can personally customize.

When I reached the inn the first time, I gave all my money and 2.6 souls of the pre-loaded garbage companions they give me in order to afford a druid I actually wanted. Or 4500G. However you wish to define it.

I went to another location, breathed in and out a couple times, found yet another trope companion I didn't exactly want on my team. Coming home with another 4500G, thinking I could replace another one of those demi-farts they call allies, I found the next one was gonna cost me 8 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grand. For the record, I did not have 8 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grand.

Save money, buy goods to survive the game. Or. Save money, discard the poorly written fart companions, but 100% of that cash goes to new companions.

Is there a scale available that can illustrate how much custom companions are going to cost me as I scrub these fanfic troglodytes from my team? I'm getting the feeling that in order to flesh out a fully custom party, I'll have to start paying real money. Feedback?

it's level based. More level you had more money it will cost. So best is keep your level low while you hired merc and for this you had to have a good picture what kind of class the merc you want to hires so you're not wasting too much money
Fair enough. I was level 3. Then I made level 4. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make 22,500 while being level 3?

Sold every magic weapon you had or cheat engine

Assuming it's similar to Kingmaker, the price of a level 20 companion was roughly 200k gold. Which was very difficult to amass.

In Wrath of the Righteous, however, gold is absurdly easy to come across. I've actually managed to save up over 1.6 million just by selling excess gear that I collect on my adventures!

Cheap mercs is one argument for finishing the prologue maze low level as possible.

In practice, for Act 1, if you refuse to use toybox for cheats, you don't really need mercs it's just that the companions you get might not be the party composition that enables the playstyle you want.

Customization of your party's composition and playstyle is sort of the reason why mercs are expensive. Because they enable a degree of optimization that literally will triple or quadruple your party's power if you're into PF power gaming.

In Act 1, selling the various "trash" magic weapons you find as well as making sure you loot all the masterwork weapons that cultists drop will net you at least 35k before Grey Garrison. But that does mean you'll play through most of Act 1 without mercs... You literally can't arrive at the tavern with enough money for more than one 1 merc (for which you would have to finish the maze without leveling up so that the merc costs only 500).

If you gather everything of 100 gold or more, by end of act 2, you should be going around 100K. Spent everything to buy a sword.

The economy in Wrath is hyper-inflated just like your power level (Mythic was always silly), but the difference is that there's a limited use for money. Scrolls and Potions I guess? And then what...? Funding the massive world-spanning crusade, theoretically. In practice, most difficulty levels you have unlimited cash past Act 2 which definitely feels it should be nerfed somehow. With Toy Box you can adjust the value that merchants give you when you sell stuff.

Yeah I just use the Toy Box mod so I can test out configurations. Keeps me from having to lug around 85 armors and a hundred masterwork weapons. I usually sell off the magic items as well, they're super OP, I just started, hit level 7 and already have a few +2, +3 named weapons worth 5-8K each.
