What is a concentration check?
Any idea what it is used for? Can't seem to find any info on it.

Alternatively, if you do not want something to distract you while casting in combat, you do a concentration check with a DC of 15+2*spell level.

The roll is d20+caster level (important, can be changed by negative levels)+attribute of the spellcasting class.

So if you want to defensively cast magic missile it would be a DC 17. A Level 1 Wizard with Int 18 would roll d20+1+4 to beat 17. So a 12 or better.

Taking damage while casting gives you a DC of 10+damage+spell level. Same wizard, same spell while taking 5 damage is DC 10+5+1 = 16.

There are many more DCs for various distractions, but I do not know if they coded them into the game and how.

If you fail a check, the spell is gone.

Oh never mind, I just realized you can right click the purple text. Concentration checks help you avoid being interrupted while casting.

In theory they are for spells that stay on the field/characters as far i know but from what i can tell they don't get used in the game or maybe only when certain difficulties are used I'm really not sure

They're used when you're a spellcaster and in melee range of people. It's to prevent the AOO. If you succeed on the check, you cast defensively and they don't get a swing, if you fail, they do.

It's also used if you're struck while casting to successfully cast, or when you're taking continuous damage.

Personally I find it easier to take a 5 foot step away from the enemy before casting and avoid the check entirely with pure casters. Probably more useful for hybrid melee casters.

and reminder: shift +click to make the cautious steps before casting! do not waste your casting opportunity.
