Its a scripted thing so the monster isn't really there til you meet the condition. You can use the scroll on the convenient body in the basement to trigger it.
Oh See Invisibility was the solution. My bad then, didn't realize the trigger was casting it inside the room lol.
It just might be you are succeeding at beating the opponent's Stealth check.
I always thought detecting invisible, stealthed opponent's was a bit bugged considering how high a Perception people in my parties ususally have and considering I was always running group See Invis and/or group True Seeing as well as Echolocation and sometimes Thoughtsense.
Maybe they fixed this in a recent patch.
Conversely, of course, if a creature is actively using Stealth, you still have to make a Perception check to see them even if you have See Invisibility up.
