See invisibility doesn't help vs stealth. I forget how to trigger the shadow, I know the room you're talking about though. There's a hint right in that room, namely one of the items you pick up

You have to cast see invisible when you're in the basement. Not before you enter.

Its a scripted thing so the monster isn't really there til you meet the condition. You can use the scroll on the convenient body in the basement to trigger it.

You can use Light of the Angels to bait them to attack you.

As far as I've been able to tell, See Invisibility does absolutely nothing, I've had better success just running in the general direction of spellcasters that cast invisibility

Oh See Invisibility was the solution. My bad then, didn't realize the trigger was casting it inside the room lol.

Oh also something else that might be able to help, in case see invisibility isn't working, try casting Glitterdust or Faerie Fire in the general area of the shadow

See invisibility didn't worked for me, it was completely bugged so i had to force the shadow demon to show up with an AoE fire spell instead.

I have another problem. I see all invisible creatures including this demon without using any spells. Is it supposed to work like this now?

It just might be you are succeeding at beating the opponent's Stealth check.

I always thought detecting invisible, stealthed opponent's was a bit bugged considering how high a Perception people in my parties ususally have and considering I was always running group See Invis and/or group True Seeing as well as Echolocation and sometimes Thoughtsense.

Maybe they fixed this in a recent patch.

cast farie fire on him he instantly appears. I think glitterdust works to.

Just for reference, being invisible simply gives a creature a +20 on Perception DCs to spot them. It is possible to identify the location of invisible creatures if you have somebody with a high Perception in your group, or if you have anybody with abilities like Tremorsense or Thoughtsense, which you may have through various buffs.

Conversely, of course, if a creature is actively using Stealth, you still have to make a Perception check to see them even if you have See Invisibility up.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
