The only cons about this game, as far as I concern, is repetitive side missions which sometimes get me annoyed.
- Enemies can spawn wherever the ♥♥♥♥ they want with no indicator where. They can immediately drop (spawn) on one of your units on turn start, and instantly kill them. ?????
- Sometimes the AI bugs out and you are forever waiting for enemy turn to finish (they just get stuck on some random corner).
- I have double shot targeted on an enemy behind another one (Me -> Bad guy A -> Bad guy B, I'm targeting Bad Guy B). The description of the skill says, "shoots twice". The first shot kills the enemy in front (A) and then... she just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stops shooting even though B is just fine. Absolutely garbage.
Gears does play more agressively. And I like the 3 actions, spend 'em how you want to approach.
I'm a huge XCOM fan and this game is a completely original tactical experience, love it.
On the con side for me: There's no base or resource management to speak of (though I admit I've not finished the game yet), its plot is thin and very linear, and weaponry seems limited to basic weapons +mods.
On pro side for me: Individual missions are usually short and the longer ones have save points (you can't save mid-battle), so for a person without tons of free time (like me lately) it's a good way to get your tactical fix without spending too much time managing the base and resources. The customization options are very good (I mean, lots and lots of choices for TEXTURE, much less color and style). Pretty good cutscenes too. The combat isn't terribly complex but it is fun nonetheless.
I got this game for 10 bucks and it was definitely worth it, though I would probably not say that if I paid 20 or more.
