Is Tyler Gay?

So for most of the game I didn't think Tyler was gay, but they kept pushing Michael to flirt with him. I kept rebutting his advances thinking there would be an option for a female romance and you could choose. Unfortunately that never came. I'm curious what other people thought about Tyler's preferences and if they thought who he was attracted to or not?

However Tyler is portrayed as a transgender in the game due to his twin sister. .

Same here. But never really got to the bottom of his preference, if it was hard coded or if it was up to us. In my mind he was a hetero trans man. But never found out. It's interesting to think about either way

There was a dialog option along the lines of "haven't figured it out yet" that made me think he could be ace too? I'd need to replay that part to be sure

I would've accepted Michaels advances if it wasn't so early on,
it seemed a little bit rushed to me.

if he was straight and attracted to females? lots of games like this let you choose the gender of your love interest. so was seeing if this game let you or if it forced him to be like a specific one

I'm not sure how to understand the trans thing.
1) a born female decides to be male (tyler). Does that make him gay if he likes men? Is he gay if he likes gay men. Would he be gay if he liked women?

2) a male gay likes a female trans to male. Wouldn't that put him back in the position of liking female genetalia, regardless of whether the owner liked to chop wood and other masculine stuff?

But regardless, I agree this is not the best time for tyler to be thinking about serious sexual decisions. Mike is probably a dominant flavor of gay stepping right up and asking twice. Tyler isn't even sure yet how he would go about approaching a potential partner if he found one.

I'm no expert but a trans man is a man, so if he was into the ladies then I'm pretty sure he'd be considered straight (but not cis straight?). I usually just take the 'trans' part off when thinking about this stuff as it doesn't really matter when you're discussing attraction.

Tyler could very well be into women, or he might not know for sure yet. We didn't get enough feedback in the game to peer into his inner most self...yet! Hoping for a sequel.

These are fair questions for someone who isn't trans to ask. I am a transgender lesbian and can answer.

Trans men are men, trans women are women. Therefore a transgender man (born female, is a trans male) who is exclusively attracted to other men is gay. A trans woman (born male, is trans female) who is exclusively attracted to other women is a lesbian. A trans man attracted to another transgender man is still gay as genitalia is not directly tied to sexuality.

Like in LiS it totally depends on you.
Besides Steph it don't think there's a single person in the LiS universe (I'd count TMW to it) that is straight Gay or lesbian. Most of the main protagonists there seem to be bisexual ^^
Haven't play LiS3 yet, so not sure about that.

To explain gender identity and sexual orientation (which have nothing to do with each other), I like to quote Eddie Izzard's autobiography. Paraphrasing:

First: There’s your body. Generally, you have boy parts or girl parts. Not always, but usually. And while you CAN change this, it’s very difficult, very expensive and likely painful.

Second: Who do you feel like? Are you in girl mode? Boy mode? This doesn’t have to align with your physical bits. And, it isn’t a binary choice. This is an infinite continuum.

Third: Who do you fancy? Again, a continuum. Could be girls. Or boys. Or boyish girls. Girlish boys. Could be no one. Infinite possibilities, and you don’t get to pick who makes you feel all squishy inside.

These three things are independent of one another. All comprise who you are.

It kind of felt like they were forcing that orientation on Tyler and only gave the illusion of "choice" on that. It would've been nicer to have make it seem like Tyler isn't some villain by denying Michael but it kind of felt that way, especially after you deny him the first time in the shop.

I really appreciated that about LiS True Colors where they gave the player more of a clear choice on who they wanted Alex to be with, unlike here where it felt like it's either Michael or no one
