[Suggestion] Arches and building sideways
Something I find a little limiting is that, even if you can stack 50 advanced buildings made of a thousand stone per room on top of a stone mine made of 4 wood, you can't build "sideways" unless it is supported by a building immediately to the left and right of where you are going to be building. This essentially means it is impossible to bridge a gap between earthbergs more than one tile left or right of one another unless there is another earthberg below them that you can build up from.

Since a large part of this game can just be constructing different buildings in patterns just for the pure aesthetics of it, being forced to have only one-tile-wide gaps between buildings or forced vertical "support beams" of buildings impairs the ability of players to paint a city to their own tastes.

Hence, I suggest adding a few constructions that provide no benefit other than providing support to other buildings that you can build out sideways. Here are some examples:

Arches - made of stone (say, 50 stone per tile?) and can be built across a three tile gap, building out supported only on one side until they are joined to form an arch. You cannot build on top of the arch until it is supported on both sides.

Truss bridge - made of refined materials, and can be built across a six tile gap, building out supported from one side until they connect. You cannot build on top of the truss bridge until it is supported on both sides.

Anti-grav float - effectively, a chance to build your own island/space station. These would take extreme materials and/or possibly expend constant upkeep, but look extra sleek and spacey and let you reform the land to your choosing so that you can have exactly the city you want. These are essentially buildings you can place anywhere, and then start stacking other buildings atop.

You might also consider allowing the destruction of islands that get in the player's way as a late-game option so that players can make ugly rocks that get in the way of their perfect visions of a city just disappear.

Building sideways and crossing bigger gaps is going to be possible! Maybe with supports, or maybe with tech.

I'd like to just add, then, that arches serve an aesthetic purpose as well as a practical one. Arches are as often decorative as structural nowadays.

Every building in the game currently, except a couple final uniques, are practical, even something like a botanical garden which doesn't have laborers to upkeep it is kinda-technically a practical building. Having some choices of supports that is purely aesthetic can allow players to have greater latitude in sculpting the aesthetic of their overall city. (Maybe the Hippies can also unlock a way to alter the appearance of the solid brown earthbergs to something covered in ivy and flowers?)
