Eating simulator?
I know the store page claims "Non-Intrusive, immersive winter survival mechanics with thirst, hunger, sleep, exhaustion, radiation, hypothermia and diseases" but let's face it: survival games are notorious for making players spend nearly all their time acquiring food and water just so they can survive a few hours to repeat the process over and over again.

Most survival games tie the need to constantly eat and drink to the game's accelerated time frame. In-game, 24 hours might be 15 or 30 minutes in the real world, so naturally our character needs to eat and drink more than what seems necessary.

While that makes sense on paper, the problem is that in practice it's simply not fun. A game's primary purpose is to entertain in some shape or form, and while many survival game mechanics can be fun, the process of spending all my time eating and drinking is not.

To make matters worse, a lot of survival games don't just require the player to constantly eat and drink, but to consume huge quantities that'd make any normal person involuntarily vomit or possibly even kill them.

In other words... even taking the accelerated time frame into account, I shouldn't need to eat five elk, two moose, 30 rabbits, and drink an Olympic swimming pool's worth of water just to survive 24 in-game hours.

TLDR: Will we have to constantly eat and drink? I'd like to go at least an hour or two of REAL WORLD time between acting like a human-size black hole.

No, we really mean what wrote which stems from precisely the point you are making. Red Frost isn't a survival game per se. More an open world, action RPG with focus on exploration and story. The survival elements are there for immersion and because they make sense in the scenario, but the focus is not survival as such.

As a matter of fact, the don't like the eat and drink mechanics in most survival games or survival modes in games like Fallout 4 due to that odd approach that you have to constantly eat and drink even if you don't do anything. And don't get me started on the amount of food you have to often consume...

We even keep that part comparatively light in our pure survival game and there it is a lot more focused that it will be in Red Frost.
