Give us option in the setting to remove refit restriction
I understand you want the players to make meaningful decisions when designing and building ships. But you are in early access and still tweaking ship modules and how they function in combat. Point defense, for example, as you already know, needs some tweaking on your end to make sure they do what their description says they do.

So, give us the option to turn off refit restriction. I recently found out, in combat, phaser PD, despite having longer range than particle beam PD on paper, only fires at incoming projectiles in much shorter range than particle beam PD does. I would like to swap out one PD system to another, but the game's refit restriction says "one is a particle beam module, the other is a laser module, so invalid refit".

I'm being punished for my decision to install Phaser PD on my ships trusting they will function as they're described. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. While the various modules are being fine tuned, give us the option to remove refit restriction so that we can test the weapons out and find out. Yes, there is a skirmish mode, but the skirmish at this moment is an inconvenient testing range for ships and formations. For example, every time I start a new skirmish battle, I have to re-select what ships will be in the battle. Give us the option to remove refit restriction during the early access phase of the game. Thank you.

P.S. By the way, I should be able to swap between different point defense weapons no matter the different weapon type. I'm not swapping out a spinal mounted coilgun out of the ship's hull. I'm swapping a PD turret mounted on the outside of the hull. Yes, how the weapon is fed or powered will also need to change. But I imagine engineers who built a fusion-reactor powered juggernaut of a spaceship and who can design, build and mount a coil gun that's bigger than a corvette along its spine can figure out how to swap out a turret system without compromising the integrity of the hull.

Agreed, it's a hardpoint swap. It should be simple.
