alien invasion
So I just fought off an alien invasion... they dropped ships in my nation and the one next door. Took out the one on my turf and noticed I was at war with them so sent pretty much everything in and beat them.

At the time my MC was around 80, so yellow on the scale... of course it's now full red. They retaliated and hit one of my stations. Will this cool back down, or should I just ramp up and start building ships like crazy now?

It should cool down, the aliens tend to send armies in the 2030's so that sounds like the normal part of the cycle. Unless the Hate meter is completely red, (and by that I mean all squares being red), they will reduce their hate through their retaliation. As for whether or not you should start escalating really depends on a number of factors; what year are you at and how built up are the aliens, is your space economy ready to fund war (i.e you have 2-3k water and volatiles per month and 200+ on base and nobles), is your tech where it needs to be, and will you be able to scale your MC to keep up with the demand.

Beating Alien Administration provide insane amount of hate (but divided between factions actively participated into it).

FULL red = mean total war and it will never go down (until you will lose all your space assets :steamhappy:).

That's the question. For context, late 2030s. I have plenty of resources, though I have to admit the RNG wasn't kind on this play for the fissiles in particular. Hate meter was at 2 squares green and yellow.

They landed two ships, one in my territory and one next door. They brought the one next door down first, so I was already parking armies near by... and well, then they put the second in my one my territories. I was willing to let the neighbor go... not so much the invader and hit him hard while he was still weak. But all of my allies were instantly at war with the alien admin at that point. I kicked both out and there's no more alien admin.. I had a little help from the academy who I shared China with, but that was it.

and yes, it's red. All squares aren't red, it's the green, yellow, orange, orange-red, red setup, but all squares are lit. I'm sitting at about 80 some MC... They did retaliate against my earth station, but they did not destroy it for some reason, they took out the 3 ships I had there and destroyed its defenses, but left even though the dreadnaught they used was still operational.

so I guess the question is if I should be building ships like mad or not. Researching coil guns right not globally and was planning on selecting Plasma next, so I could put up a fight. Just got antimatter and haven't even gotten the project for a supercollider. Don't have the good engines yet, though to be fair, long range strikes aren't really what I would be doing here.

In that case it isn't a total war yet. On normal difficulty - you can't trigger total war until 2042 (or you'd completed a project to win the game).

+40 hate from destroying landing ship
+80 hate in one go for destroying Alien Administration :steamhappy: (+40 if Academy armies actively participated in process - and that mean their land armies participated in battles/occupation).

It will go down but slowly (or even not go down at all if you will fight back).

Coilguns are enough to win this game. And honestly recent changes of marine drops nerfed Plasma a lot - they couldn't be used as a bombardment ships. So now go lasers or go coilguns :)

so use some boost and toss some easy targets in orbit of earth then sounds like the right answer...

I didn't actually destroy the ship... One of the ships landed in my territory and since I had already amassed some armies near the site, I took out the 3 while they were weak. The other 3 required my armies plus ally help from the US, EU, and China. The academy did send a few armies (they own most of China's CPs), but the vast bulk of it was mine... as were the casualties naturally.

Good to know on Coil guns. At least I am about to be able build some ships that aren't reliant on missiles to fight back. Too bad I don't have decent engines or anti-matter just yet.

Should also note I'm at 80ish MC with one of the techs allowing for 25% growth in MC without catching hate... I'm currently researching another as it was one of several very nice spoils to pick up from taking out those armies.

So silly question, will/can they invade again? And if so, am I automatically at war? I honestly would have left them alone had they stayed in afganistan. But that one ship touched down in the Eurasian Union, and I couldn't tolerate that.

1) Of course they will invade again :)
2) Unsure how they pick a land invasion target as after failed first playthrough - I'm focused on denying aliens to land on Earth at all.

I almost doesn't matter now - if you will hit 2042 while still being on max hatred => total war :)

Save before the invasion force makes orbit. Then you can reload for a different landing point.

If aliens land in a landlocked region the only way to kill the alien armies is with nukes (you have to declare war on the countries in question). As long as you deal with them and not the resulting Alien Admin you will not generate any hate.

The last time, when they landed in Africa near lake Victoria, I spent 15 nukes to deal with them. Now they are coming with 6 ships, that means i will need 18 nukes if they drop into a landlocked region.

If they do form Alien Admin and you can't go to war yet, then use your agents to rise unrest. Unrest is the main weakness of alien admin.

well, I'm almost at 2042 and it's still the same. We've had a fair number of skirmishes with them mostly victorious, but the meter hasn't dropped at all, so it looks like I'll be ramping up ships pretty hard core shortly.

So what's magic about 2042?
Torpex 16 ENE 2023 a las 11:47 a. m.
20 years since 2022. Aliens go to war no matter what.
