How to protect space stations?
How do you protect your stations from being stolen by enemy agents?
Do I really have to manually order a agent around to periodically visit all station to do a defense mission? (Assuming defense even works?).
And once a station got stolen, how to get it back? There doesn't seem a way to improve your chances with PR or crackdown.

It's easier to just spend your time identifying and assassinating the NPC agents

everytime i lose a space station, ive sent my best agents to try to get it back, and they fail and get locked up for 4 rounds. Couple times ive had 90+% chance to win it back , still fail. I stopped entirely, Built ships to blow up the stations as payback, then the game said its an atrocity to kill stations with population on board. Well screw me then.

You do, infact, space enemy agents if you assassinate them on a station. There are techs that can make it harder to loose a station, and you can add marine modules to them.

I got hit with solar flares... and no posssible way to stop it at that stage of the game, as a result, lost all of my space stations, and no way to prevent it... I had a character "protecting" 2 of them, and they still go... it's broken.

It's absolutely messi. I end up by editing game files. So I don't have this problem for now.
They still can take it if you over MC limit also they can steal ships if they docked to station.
But at least it doesn't happen everywhere for no reason and have at least some sence.
Default mechanic is broken and unfinished. Hope devs will fix it.

Don't build anything in Earth orbit. The main reason they keep getting stolen is because enemy agents have way too easy access to them. Build them at a Lagrange point or on another planet. Even if you have a high chance of defending your station, remember it is 7 vs 1 if you are in the lead and sooner or later the AI will get lucky.

Even if you have the Materials Module, you can't use it against a debris hit, even though that is supposed to be an option

The best answer is to have only two Space Station in Earth orbit. One Shipyard in low orbit, and one for Social Science. The Social Science one should be in Medium Orbit or higher. After you aggro the aliens, you should only have what you can defend around Earth.

Marine Barracks helps. Specializing your agents and having one that can assassinate helps.

if you mean the control space asset mission (NOT the marines, which you can just blow up), then the loyalty of your council combined will make it more difficult. So topping everyone up on loyalty will make your space stations much safer from the persuasion flip. This is the big reason why inspire is so important and ethical councilors can sometimes be so bad, and why loyalty monitors are pure trash. Obviously, you should stay below MC cap where possible. You can also bombard enemy earth MC to put them over the cap, effectively ending the problem until they get more.

In a similar vein, if you want to make it easier to persuade enemy space stations, then you should murder their high loyalty councilors and actively put them over their MC cap.
