MC Hate Cap Just For the Player?
So I just realised that the AI is way over the MC cap for alien hate. I assume that means that the aliens ignore the AI factions and the MC Cap only applies to the player.

The aliens also attack other factions than the player. So I'm certain the AI factions will also receive some "visits" from the aliens if they build up too far.

It could be that they have researched the projects which increases their MC limit for the aliens as well. Or they are doing so great that they can actually deal with alien attacks. At which MC value are those AI factions?

Doubtful that they can defend. It's early and everyone has at least 50. The Academy has 85. They should have been hit by now if the AI targets them.

MC Cap doesn't cause hate, it is usage that does. 85 isn't enough (by itself) to be an issue on Normal and, even if you are above Normal, I expect the AI is still on Normal. Or do you mean AI hate is at 85?

I read they changed it to 50 for 0.4.

I believe that is the number on Brutal. Where did you read that?

You could be right. I read it on Reddit but can't find the post. The official page says 0,3 per for normal, 1 per for Brutal. It's possible the post I read was talking about Brutal.
My latest run I have lost my first 3 stations with my MC bottom two of the factions -below 65 total and less used -and my hate meter at - 2 diamonds- 2 diamonds - 3 diamonds.
It is still FUBAR

Have you killed or captured any aliens?

Reddit is a cesspool of TI misinformation. Most of it is either referring to version of the game that haven't existed for over a year, incorrectly describe what is happening, or is just flat out wrong.

First off, the MC usage cap and the hate cap are not the same thing. They are associated but not a single meter. The hate cap is and always has been 50, no matter what difficulty you are on. It is what is represented by the colored diamonds, and you gain hate whenever you commit hostile actions against the aliens or their puppets, the Servants and eventually the Protectorate. Once it goes above 50 and all the diamonds are filled the aliens will attack you and blow up your space assets, which causes a loss of hate until it is back below 50. If you go above 300 hate and the date is past 2042 (on normal, 2032 on Veteran, and immediately on Brutal) the hate meter will go all red and they will not stop until everything you have in space is destroyed, then it resets to 0.

The MC usage cap sets the minimum floor for the hate meter, based on a scaled portion of used MC that is linked to difficulty level. The formula is 50/(.05/.3/.6/1 based on difficulty level)/.8 for each of the 3 obfuscation techs. So the MC usage cap is 166 on normal and goes to 208/260/325 with each tech. If you have 124 used MC then your hate cap will never be less than 40 so even the smallest aggressive action against the aliens will usually push you over 50.

Finally, the Protectorate are completely immune to the MC usage cap. They will never have hate based solely on used MC, so if you see them above 166 used MC and not getting attacked, that's normal. Only directly hostile actions will give them hate. Same for the Servants, who the aliens will never normally attack.
