How Does The AI Take/Decide to Take CP's?
I'm in a game right now at the start and just ditched Mexico. The AI, Project Exodus and The Resistance just took with next to no support. Are they spending 32+ Influence for a small chance and just getting lucky?

Seems really weird. If it was me I would have to generate some support or capture neighbouring CP's in order to be willing to take a 60%+ shot. I definitely wouldn't be willing to play roulette with my Influence which is always in short supply at the very start of the game.

Edit: Make that 3 CP's all in the same turn. Project Exodus took a CP in Canada with 1% support . Seems really sketchy.

By ditched do you mean you abandoned the CPs? Because they gives a -10 to your defense, which makes those CPs very easy to take.

Yes and No. It's still not that easy with zero support and not neighbouring CP;s at the start of the game unless it's a tiny nation.

I think you are overestimating the difficulty in taking an abandoned CP in Canada or Mexico, which is quite easy to do with any reasonable Esp stat level and a purge mission, even with no or very little PO support.

Purge does not use the same modifiers to the mission that Control Nation does.

Experimental patch or the stable patch? Experimental patch they modified it to reduce the 'drive-by' chance of crackdown and purging of control points unless the AI decides it actually wants the nation. In my case, I've been able to hold Mexico (abandoned) without purges for about 5-6 years now on veteran difficulty. Just kept PO high.

'constrained AI use of crackdown and purge on nations with <= 4 CPs unless there's a specific goal targeting it. Intent to remove any frenetic AI drive-by crackdowns still occurring so they focus more on defined goals.'

I'm assuming the stable one.

Canada ended up being permanent and Mexico got abandoned, now someone else is currently trying to move in.

Probably a little but after Mexico was abandoned by the person who took it, I tested with my own Counsellor and had an 84% chance with my Purge but that's with the CP's in the US and 75% support.

87% is almost a guarantee, and the numbers breakdown for the modifiers are shown to you which is the far more useful information than the raw percent. You can easily see than even sans the small neighbor bonus and the PO bonus the AI could easily have good odds simply by having a couple higher Esp points and a couple points of influence spending.

I can see how they can do do it but without neighbouring CP bonus and/or Popular Support it;s a little risky to be rolling the dice with significant amounts of influence that early in the game. That being said the AI never seems to have any resources so they definitely aren't scared to spend it.

Exactly. The AI would more than jump at the chance even at 40 or 50% odds.
