It is impossible to catch any alien fleets by outspending their delta-V budget in the early game.
The only thing you can do to force a favorable engagement is to intercept them twice in rapid succession, so the second wave hits them while they're on cooldown and not allowed to evade.
b) Rush top tier engines (Neutron Flux Torch is most cheap in terms of RP) and they will be unable to escape from you anymore.
Wow, that is new information for me.
So in case my fleet has very low delta v, all I have to do is do tranfer to their position twice ?
First fleet could have a very high score but not your most awesome & combat-capable ships (how to build ships to abuse score is a theme for your self-education :P). Send it to intercept aliens.
Now send your proper combat fleet :) Enjoy carnage :)
However, I don't know if they run away if there are other types (non-carriers) of ships in their fleet.
