Aliens build almost exclusively space defense modules

I'm in late 2040s. I started my space war with Aliens by destroying Alien 6k stack. After that they sent couple small fleets which were intercepted and have become very passive after that. All my stations are fortified (overly so, hehe).

I started to wonder what they're up to, so I clicked through all their bases. Both colonies and habs constitute in 70-80% of space defenese modules. Colonies have riduculous strength of 50-70k.

Is it supposed to be like this? That probably leaves them with no economy or even deficit. Their fleets seem to be fairly weak, I could probably beat all at once.

Does your late game also looks like this?

Irony that colony defenses don't seems to stop orbital nukes

seems the same for me. 60k power bases, the strongest alien fleet i have seen is 2k

Similar for me. After the hectic 30ties the constant stream of attackers seemed to taper off a bit, then after nuking most of their mines, further attacks just stopped. They do have 5k fleets sitting at their stations, but its no match for my defence fleets, so they don't attack. Leaving Earth undefended does prompt them to send another 1k attack, so the AI is not broken, it's just out of steam I think.

Thing is I never really nuked their bases, I barely killed 1 and it had basically no economy. I think AI prioritizes defense too much and gets itself into financial death spiral.
