alien threat meter doesn't decline after being maxed?
when you piss off the aliens for the final time, is that just it? in it to win it total war? feels a little cheap to fight off an alien land invasion of my main country only to have the meter maxed out and the entirety of the alien armada relentlessly hunt down every one of my space assets for the rest of the game with no hope of recourse.

one my first runs was ruined because of this so on the next one i thought i would just tread carefully and not use a lot of MC to make sure my alien thread stayed low for when i needed to achieve objectives, thus i'd research and build up until i was ready to actually fight them. invasions come in and land in my countries so i move in and wipe them out only to realise i'd gone over the threshold. luckily i learned from my last run so i had proper defences ready to go when they started trying to take out my stations and habs.

so is it possible to reconcile with the aliens or at least make them think they've dealt with you as a threat and no longer need to send forces after you?

Yes, if they blow up enough of your stuff and your threat is sufficiently reduced, the meter can drop from red. But if you are an anti-alien faction, this will only be temporary.

Is your thread meter completely red? If it is, the aliens will not stop attacking, otherwise their hate towards you will be slowly reduced over time. You can speed this up by building stations in earth orbit for them to blow up.

After a set amount of time, no matter what you do or don't do, Aliens declare an all out war. There's no coming back from that unless you play Servants

I ran into this my first playthrough. Thought I was pretty set after beating the first waves. Until my assets started dropping and an even larger invasion came the following year.

I think station defenses repelling the aliens just makes them hate you even more, I mean logically if a bully gets punched in the face, hes gonna go cry, be upset, but then come back with some friends. "oh well we failed to humble them, lets go away now" Not going to happen.

So i guess if you need the hate to go down, you would have to disable station defenses and let the baby alien boys have their way.

I feel like the hate meter and its reducing techs are all intended for players who are moving fast enough to be space combat ready by 2035. Because if you're running strong its really easy to go over that hate cap pre 2035.

Longest I went before total war was my most recent game, milked it until 2037. Let xeno take over all of Africa, so I could roll in. So the point of no return is after you commit total war, official point of no return is when the bar turns all red.

Safe way to deny the Aliens the foothold on Earth and still keep them accepting status quo is assassinating spree of Protectorate and Servants agents once every 2-3 years. Wait until 2023 kill all their agents, one after another. Wait 2-3 years, let them XP and Org Up and then kill all of them again. Next you should target their reserach to make sure they are not researching "going to bed with aliens" techs. Rinse and repeat. By 2030s the xeno loving scum will still be at the 2022 level, Aliens will be probably in the orange. But at that point the all out war is coming in a few short years so why wait.

After a certain date depending on difficulty if you hit 50 hate the aliens declare total war and there is no step back. But it's not automatically. You need to hit 50 hate threshold. Before this date you can recover even after reaching 50 hate. But if the trigger are set - 50 hate and boom, now you have only one way to stop the attack - gather your fleets and strike back.
