I wouldn't like my chances with the level of armies you have currently. You would have to outnumber them by a lot to be able to cycle units in and out of combat.
All else fails, nukes are you friend.
Ideally you get one landing of 3 armies. Sometimes they land 6 all together with a follow up not far behind. If they land the armies in different spots, EZ, if they are in the same area you will have to use a nuke.
For me I tend to make sure I always have a hi militech army because even at 5.7 the suggested minimum militech, it can be tough and you might have to end up using a nuke still.
I'm surprised people don't mention orbital bombard. A month ago I went into an invasion with under 6 militech, they were doing alright, but when I went to pull some armies away to heal, the xeno did oribital strikes on me and killed off 2 armies with navies, pretty big loss at invasion time.
I'm pretty sure it's possible to attain miltech higher than the aliens, though I have yet to do so.
