I believe it's possible for India to choose to conceed the contested region to end the war, but IDK if they ever would.
After that wait 3-10 turns for the countries stability to fall apart. AT this point its easier to raise your public opinion, do that for a few turns, then you should be strong enough to do both a crackdown and a purge. It might only be a 25-40% chance to get the crackdown, but once it hit the purge will go through.
This way you can get your foot in the door, purge the executive, then just end the war.
Another option is to follow above steps, but to spam increase unrest instead of doing pub opion/crackpurge. When the coup happens you will have cps in the country, if you're lucky maybe even the exec right off the bat.
You're going to have to thrash the country no matter what, but you can at least avoid a nuke this way.
I tried this just now, but it flipped back to India's control instead.
Thank you for the hint. I hadn't been aware that occupying non-capital regions would cause unrest to rise like that. I didn't want to go after India as a whole just yet, but I suppose I'll do it that way.
AI also might nuke u if you are about to destroy their last unit in their capital. Even if you are not yet occupying it.
I had it with russia. Their last 2 units was on low health so they nuked moskow
