How fast to space battles?
Hello, I have almost no interest in the planet simulation part, I actually find it boring.
Can anyone tell me how fast can you progress to space battles and stations etc?
I wouldn't want to end up buying the game just to find out space warfare is a small fraction of the game.

Yeah, forget it.

I think I played 40 hours before even seriously thinking about space combat, and it didn't become a big part of the game for a long time after.

Meanwhile, Earth remains critical at my current 130 hours in.

space battles are a very side thing, though there is a skirmish mode. if you wanna play with custom ship loadouts you have to play the main game though. defniitely pass if all you want is space combat
this game has space battles? i thought they were cinematic /s

i find myself alt tabbing till its over. you may want to wait for this game to fix itself.

Ohh boy, I deflated kinda quick, I'll probably look somewhere else then. Just managed to browse a bit more and it looks like space battles are indeed a side thing........

Sounds like Stellaris is a better bet for you.

Not even sure if Stellaris would be for him, a large portion of the game is managing planets, the AI becomes weak and you're basically building up to fight the end game mission. Space battles, Sin of Solar Empires, the remastered Homeworld games and the new Homeworld coming out are in the space battle category.

Sins of a solar empires is pretty decent yeah. I recommend X4 Foundations, that's a pretty awesome game for space battles. Although a fair bit of it can be just flying around.

can i recommend: try the simulation of combat mode; see what you think.
but if you're not all that into the "Hearts of Iron V: Xcom ediiton" side of the game;
did you look at this:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/887570/NEBULOUS_Fleet_Command/
that's a spacecombat game without all this other stuff.
edit: i was NOT saying "buy it"- dang you steam; i was saying look. SIgh. w/e

Played SOASE, loved it, played Homeworld, loved the games, loved Nexus, loved Haegemonia back then.
I was thinking X4 but reading online it says bugs are still there, AI doesn't work that well, and that is important since I don't have that much time for a multiplayer like EvE.
going to check out Nebulous, but ideally I want a new, shinier Sins of a Solar Empire.
Picky, I know :)
Thanks for the replies.

Try Freespace 2 with the Blue planet mods through Knossos. Literally the best space simulator combat I've ever played, try the free battlestar galactica mod called diaspora mod to try it for free its a standalone fan project using the freespace 2 engine. Should be able to find all the mods on hardlight productions website.

With most efficient min-maxing you would need ~20 game hours to reach space battle stage. However IMO space battle are the uncompleted part in TI. Once you how it works you will find the your options are limited and become bored at it. If you want fancy space battle stuff you should probably give a pass

The best and most comprehensive space sim game with good space battles I've played in my life was X3: Albion Prelude with Litcube's Universe overhaul mod. Way better than X4.

I recommend it... provided you're willing to spend dozens of hours figuring out how to play the game since it's way more complicated than any of the game's you've mentioned. And have a lot of patience to play it, it's not the fastest game out there. But man, if it isn't the best space sim experience I've ever had, everything from the empire building to actual fleet battles is amazing.

ok game is 3 parts early( no space combat), mid ( limited space combat, because you don't have the tech to get anywhere other than earth and mars, and maybe jsut maybe mercuy if you are determined and set up multiply supplying station along the way.)

THEN, then there is late game(where now you finally have the ability to projector power be-young mars and Alien decided that they can no longer tolerate your existence.)

Just to let you know in case you are interested, soase2 is in development.

You can't but the developers need to add an advanced start campaign. Hopefully we'll have some mods or more selections for a campaign start.
